Finished first HQ assault
Finished first HQ assault
After leaving it a little long trying to reduce Str 12 with missions in other regions, to no effect, I finished my first HQ attack and really enjoyed it. The pod compositions in LW2 seem to better supplement each other than in vanilla, making them a better challenge. Finished with no injuries fortunately and some loot, and an enjoyable couple hours slow advancement. More than any other mission this one made me think of the best parts of Jagged Alliance. A total conversion into Jagged Alliance, using the gorgeous art assets here, and keeping to relatively low tech, would be pretty popular I think.

My latest one went south pretty hard. Expanded just a liiiittle too far with my creep and in the end activated about 30 aliens all at once... and the Berserker Queen. Rip.
Restarted and hid myself in the corner of the facility, area suppressing and sniping all that came near me. Man that was much cleaner than my first attempt.

Yeah, hq assaults and raids is where you get to be truly naughty and do the good old overwatch traps all day long.
I bring three snipers if I can, a psi op or two, specialist and some pew pew soldiers. Mind control, haywire and full override and you don't even have to risk your own guys to soak shots and damage.

Good advice. I had a map with lots of buildings down the middle and on opposite side. After first three pods downed from starting position using shinobi/sniper, there were a few tense moments when you don't quite know where baddies are when you climb onto a roof even with a concealed scout. Fun. Had two pods join the commander pod at end, but luckily a rocket left so wasn't too bad. Still haven't had the luck to use flamethrower more than once (a lucky one from concealment in an early mission).
Question though: what are the reasons for liberating more than one region? You need one of course for the DE clock, but after that is there an efficiency in not clearing anymore and just focusing on the path?
Man, a Jagged Alliance conversion would be fun...
