Seriously, Victor-1 has just arrived in LEO.
Go in and take a look at the ship & we get given information we simply have no right knowing (please see screenie)
Drive type - Alien Fusion Torch x2
Power Plant - Alien Hybrid Confinement Fusion Reactor
Radiators, Armour, Nose Weapons & the Heat Sink as well as all of it's performance figures are apparently already known.
How is this even remotely possible, please?
Surely everything about it at this point in the game (November 2022) should be one big 'Unknown'....

Probably, but you have the deeper issue that this is the age of the Internet, and every player who wants to know will have a guide open in another window.

Re: Victor-1 Arrives - Too much information?
Doubtless they will (I know I certainly do) but the fact remains that the game is giving us information here that we simply should not have or know anything whatsoever about! We have not yet discovered fusion at the point where the screenshot was generated, so how do we know they have a fusion torch drive when we don't even know what one of those actually is?
To my mind until we have the relevant tech (or have shot one of the aliens down) everything should be 'unknown'

Just because we don't know how to make a controlled fusion powerplant (let alone a spaceship drive with it) doesn't mean we couldn't recognize the performance of one breaking into orbit of our planet. As the ship arrives into orbit, we could get a rough idea of size via radar, and quickly work out how much Delta-V it burned decelerating into orbit. That plus an idea of the elements that were in the exhaust it was emitting (spectroscopy) should give a rough idea of what tech the drive is using and a lower bound on it's performance/efficiency. Ie. if we saw something spraying out helium that decelerated by 200km/s over a day or two and got a size reading and could estimate density, we should be able to work out the minimum ISP and impulse necessary to achieve that.

Sorry but I would definitely disagree with that one. Bear in mind please that our so-called 'cosmologists' still believe in Dark Matter & Creation Ex Nihilo, and would probably not recognize exotic propulsion for what it was if they were beaten around the head with a component of the drive.cesar.malari wrote: ↑Sun Nov 13, 2022 11:32 pm Just because we don't know how to make a controlled fusion powerplant (let alone a spaceship drive with it) doesn't mean we couldn't recognize the performance of one breaking into orbit of our planet. Add to this how on earth (or in space for that matter) would we know about Alien Diamondoid Armour & it's thicknesses, not to mention it's weaponry.
Sorry but this is definitely too much information at this stage in the game.

Re: Victor-1 Arrives - Too much information?
Oh, I'm not claiming we'd know how it _works_, but if we can observe size, we can guess at mass based on an assumed density (though exotics will throw that off). And based on observed acceleration and assumed mass, we can ballpark the power output needed to achieve that. We know the rough mass-energy conversion rate of the techs we can theorize (antimatter, fusion, fission, chemical) and can back-calculate that. Of course, if the involvement of exotics change the mass-energy conversion rates, all that goes out the window
Re: Victor-1 Arrives - Too much information?
That info is irrelevant. What are you supposed to made out of that description? How much alien armor is worth vs your armor, and how much their weapons are worth is not really a consearn.
Later on, since victor is kind enough to stick to orbit of lot of time, it's not out of question that it is more thoroughly examined.
