Dumb question about interception

Post by jtk_1975 »

Hi all

First up, congrats to the devs on a really deep and brilliant game ... I've been playing since the start of the year and it just keeps getting better.

Came back to it last week after a bit of a break, and now can't figure out how to manage interceptions. In the old days, I'd split the fleet into two, and then the second fleet could always force the aliens into combat. I recall seeing something in the patch notes about this, but now I can't figure out how to do it - if I split the fleet the old-school way, the aliens can now skip away from both fleets. But I can't see anything in the interface that lets me automatically split the fleet to achieve the interception.

Would love it if someone can point out what really dopey and obvious thing I've missed!

The release notes reference is viewtopic.php?t=29828; search for "pincer". There's a formula in there that lets you work out the minimum fleet size you'd need. It's a surprisingly large number, curse of dimensionality and all that.

Bottom line is that, under the new rules, forcing combat is impossible or impractical unless your fleet's performance is close to the enemy's.

You can quite easily have better combat acceleration than the Aliens already with the Advanced Pulsar Drive and missile Escorts but DV might be a problem then so it might be better to seem just weaker than them as they would feel inclined to attack you.
