Outpost Defense

I'm not sure if I make some error or if it is perhaps a known issue:

no matter what defense I build at outposts (up to several thousand strength), they don't damage any ship and get wiped out all the time. I tried it on different game speeds, with different layouts. Currently for example I have a mix of Layered Defense and Battlestations on Mercury and each base is wiped off the surface.
I guess it might have to do with the (at least for me) broken Autoresolve feature as with autoresolve even a single small alien ship will kill my fleets without damage.

Or perhaps I make a fundamental error, so any ideas or recommendations? Thank you.

(Great game nonetheless so far)

You forgot to add the most important info: what's the version of the game you are playing. However, I would risk to say the issue is on your side: in my game started on 0.3.26 that I currently play on 0.3.76 the Autoresolve is not broken (I've even tested it destroying an Alien station) and I've had no issues with defending my bases by surface defenses even in versions in which it was bugged (I defended them on 3x time compression) - I haven't tried to defend them in the current validation version, though, because I am at the stage of the game when the Aliens can't bombard my bases anymore.

Oh sorry... you are right.
I use the latest validation branch.. 0.3.76
But I had the same problems on every version I had so far (I started with 0.3.67 I think). If I remember correctly there was one version between the 0.3.67 and the current one, that I once managed to kill a single alien ship on autoresolve with a fleet of about 10, 12 ships (mix of escorts and corvettes with ?2? destroyers)

All three branches are the same right now (0.3.76).

Bombardment is very all-or-nothing in the live build; either the base gets wiped or the fleet gets smashed. We're working on that for 0.3.77 -- in addition to working on the internal mechanics; we added a feature where you can pick your bombardment altitude, trading risk for damage.
