Latest Patch Notes

Post by neilwilkes »

Nerfed Research Campus, costs an MC now and has 200 crew. we will designate a hate zone somewhere for this change, but producing 1000/research a day in the mid-30s is far too much
Ouch.
This is really gonna hurt me - but it's 100 research, not 1,000 surely? I have a fair number of those things in my current game which will tip me right over the edge into Punitive Xeno actions...eeek.

Oh - whilst I think about it (and I cannot find it in the codex at all) - what's an ISRU module please?

1000/day as in it's super easy to spam a bunch of them everywhere for thousands of research a day in total.

In-Situ Resource Utilization module - lets you refuel at local sites without a dedicated ship facility.

Yes. That is exactly why it's being done.

The 'Mercury Dyson Sphere' tactic of rushing to Mercury and to Research Campuses, spending ~60 MC on Mercury stations and facilities, and packing them to the gills with Research Campuses works entirely too well.

just throwing my 2c in:

while I appreciate the fact that the "dyson sphere" absolutely needs a nerf, I'm concerned about brutal gameplay.

The 50MC "limit" (increasing to ~78 fairly rapidly) just about allows you to comfortably hit ~7k research/month from mercury by end of 2027 and ~15k by end of 2029.

without that brutal players will always be shoehorned into going for meganations - sloooowly, twiddling their thumbs, while the research slowly trickles.

the "jupiter rush", after the research campus changes, will be more of the same - you rush jupiter just for early exotics to direct invest => meganations.

What's worse: we'll have (almost) no use for space resources.

Not sure if that's going to be fun.

I understand that point extremely well - as things were already in the last validation patch The Servants were already ignoring everything except Mega Nation building despite my best efforts to murder as many of their councillors as I could find

I think in Brutal gameplay you are supposed to disregard alien hate and fight them with low-tech ships as soon as achievable - at least this is how I do it.

How do you do Jupiter rush? When I played as Exodus aliens immediately assaulted any hab I placed there.

It depends on what you mean by "Jupiter rush" and by "immediately" - in my current Exodus Brutal game (started on 3.26 but played almost from the beginning on validation versions until 3.39) I waited with the rush (I feared my colonizers wouldn't even get to Jupiter after one of them was tried to be intercepted in Mars orbit) until aliens started to look as if they had resource issues (they started again to send 1-ship fleets and many ships seemed built with worse components) supposedly because of attrition of their forces and overbuilding (this is mostly role-playing - I really have no idea but I've destroyed everything they've sent against me, including a Mothership), until I had Advanced Pulsar finally (2032 - waited very long for it to unlock) researched (it's needed to send a small 3-Escort fleet in support of colonizers with Grid Drive - turned out not really necessary) and until my presence in the Asteroid Belt was distracting enough for them (all 3 conditions coincided). After establishing my presence on Ganymede, Io and Europa (Callisto is in alien hands) I can say that in such circumstances they send 1-ship fleets to intercept this presence but it takes over half a year for the first of them to get there (they are not sending anything from Callisto and here they make a grave mistake) so my Escorts built locally (6 in 5 months) will easily deal with them (unless they finally risk to use their Callisto 3-Dreadnought-with-screen fleet outside of Callisto orbit because they also have a Mothership-with-screen fleet there).

So my "Jupiter rush" happens in 2033 and "immediately" in my case means the opposition arrives after 6 months.

Sorry for off-top.
