Space combat - Station
Why do I have no way to influence my station? I can't even select a target, the layered defense arrays shot at what ever enemy they like. There is no point in space combat (my) station vs. (enemy) ships ("Accept" - "Start battle") that way. Just autoresolve and be done with it (meaning lose everything, do zero damage).

In a nutshell, you need better defences, Sir.
This can be either in the form of better weaponry on your PD, or if the base is important a ship to protect it.
I have been caught out by this one too - but you don't say whose ships are killing you though. Is it the Aliens or another faction please?
I ask because one of the biggest mistakes I made was to expand too fast, too quickly and the Alien hate levels climb up to the point where they will kill something - my way around this is to put up 'bait' orbitals that they are welcome to trash as they don't matter. This does not always work, but it works more often than not.
