Average Income, Inequality, and the Alien Administration

Post by Deathkebab »

Point of this post: GDP and inequality should be tied to the regions - not the nations - to avoid inconsitencies.

Currently, when 2 nations or regions merge, they take their original GDP, population and inequality score and combine them into 1 new value. Then this new value is applied to all regions. This generates weird scenarios when regions are dropped again. An example:

The US absorbs Honduras and friends, which raises inequality and drops the average income drastically. In order to revert this, USA grants independence, but the damage is already done: All the wealth magically transferred within 2 weeks out of the original states, the inequality does not go down. This may not look that bad, just reannex and live with it, lower average income means a more effective economy priority. This is where the Alien Administration comes into play.

In my current playthrough the aliens landed first in Mali, which has been ravaged by factions going full spoils. After conquering the neighbouring regions there was a dirt poor 500 million people country full of alien armies on standby because they were blockaded by the USA. The second invasion force breaks the blockade, half the army goes to the USA and gets defeated, the other half takes the EU (whose Resistance AI cannot coordinate their armies nor properly use its nukes). The USA clapback whiping the Alien Administration within 3 months (MiliTec 2.9 because they started in Africa) reveals the economical damage: both Europes and Africas inequality shot through the roof, with Europes economy in shambles and the African cash split between 3 federations.

It takes years to change GDP and inequality in either direction with prorities, but 2 weeks of administrative change can screw entire continents because these values are stored on the nations. The game could be way more coherent by storing these values within the regions.
