It would be doubleplus good if you could tick research projects hidden. With the ship components there's huuuuuge pile of dross that you probably never want to research once you've picked suitable option on same tech level.
At the same time, it would be good to be able to view everything anyways, which is how this kind of thing is usually implemented.
Now on the subject of huge pile of techs.. Apparently the target audience are guys who will make nice graphs and charts on what's a good pick and what's meh and what are specific pics good for. And everyone else will just go with the recommendations' shortlists. Too early days for this to have materialized in a definite form, though.
