So I got a network hack mission with 30 Intel, 130 supplies reward and 6.5 day infiltration time. Is that a trap mission or am I being paranoid?
Also, what's the right response to a trap mission? Stealth with a shinobi pair/trio, go heavy with the master sergeant A team, or just ignore it?
I chose to infiltrate the A team and be prepared to fight it out, but I suspect that the shinobi stealth squad would still have been the right idea.
If so, I think the trap should probably be redesigned to include multiple single drone pods. If stealth is the default strategy for a hack mission, the trap version should make stealth next to impossible. If it makes fighting it out harder but doesn't make stealth more difficult, then the trap isn't designed for the thing it's supposed to target. You don't catch mice in a beartrap.
Trap mission
Avoid it
Avoid it. Reported enemy mission strength is incorrect if it's a trap mission (if it says "light" assume it is heavy or swarming for a trap mission). There are many enemies on a trap mission and once concealment is blown the reinforcement train will start dropping on you very regularly and make your life a living hell.
Due to enemy mission strength getting to the mission target is almost impossible to achieve with out breaking concealment.

Re: Trap mission
What is the advent strength in the region? It must be 7 before traps can show up. Normal hack missions can easily have up to 9 days of infiltration time, so 6.5 is nothing to get excited about.

Re: Trap mission
Strength in the region is 2 or 3, so I guess it's not supposed to be a trap mission. Still, it seems like crazy good rewards. We'll see how it turns out.

Re: Trap mission
Turned out not to have been a trap. Fought it out and got the rewards plus a little extra for skulljacking advent and for having an actual specialist to do the hacking.
Re: Trap mission
Here's the info out of the ini in case anyone is trying to figure out if something is a Snare or not.
What I take this to mean is
Code: Select all
[Snare X2LWAlienActivityTemplate]
iPriority=26
RequiredRebelMissionIncome=0
DiscoveryPctChancePerDayPerHundredMissionIncome=85
MinAlert=7
MinVigilance=5
AlertLevelModifier=-1
ForceLevelModifier=1
MissionTree[0] = ( MissionFamilies[0]="Hack_LW", \\
Duration_Hours=216, \\
DurationRand_Hours=72 \\
)
- The mission will always be a Hack something mission
- It requires at least 7 Strength
- It requires at least 5 Vigilance
Re: Trap mission
Whoa,
I didnt know that trap missions exist. Can someone go into detail explaining this?

Re: Trap mission
The details about how/when it can spawn are already provided above.
In the mission itself, everything starts on yellow alert and RNFs come much earlier and more often than usual.
