Re: Shouldn't the ships be able to move laterally?

All I can add is to stress that in order for it to work better, especially at close range, padlocking would have to be able to constantly keep front to the enemy as currently it's not possible (padlocking rotates a ship in the beginning of the combat phase and the ship stays oriented in the same dir...

Re: Shouldn't the ships be able to move laterally?

You've helped me to visualize it better and I agree that it could be done in a way that would help in making smaller ships more important (although I already like them) and flanking more viable. Flanking would then give very substantial advantage at closer range at the cost of temporarily showing si...

However, they might seem to be mad (even barking mad) and turn out to be right (eg. Sarrah Connor in Terminator 2 ;)).

Re: Shouldn't the ships be able to move laterally?

Question is how interesting such gameplay could be? I am open to the idea of trying it but you would even have less incentive in showing your sides than now. Even now most players probably don't bother with substantial maneuver despite it leads to more interesting gameplay, eg. I had to persuade lon...

Re: Shouldn't the ships be able to move laterally?

Yes, it's consistent and in your example Titan would be capable of even 2x larger lateral acceleration so I think that lateral dodging and maneuvering projectiles were not implemented because they would mostly cancel each other while adding some performance issues.

Re: Shouldn't the ships be able to move laterally?

Are you sure the maneuvering thrusters are so strong that they could give 20 kT Titan 17 milligees acceleration during 15s? If they are that powerful then you are right and dodging some incoming projectiles should be possible even for Titans. Some, because shots would be fired in a framing pattern a...

Re: Shouldn't the ships be able to move laterally?

You are probably forgetting that to rotate force is multiplied by radius so you need much more force to move laterally than to rotate. Thus, using the same force would make moving laterally much harder so you would need much stronger maneuvering thrusters to move meaningfully.

Re: Intercept trajectories question

(eg. making colonization much easier that it should be) so it cuts in only one way, effectively. how this work with colonization ? Assume you fly to Jupiter (or Saturn) with your colonizing fleet - apart from alien fleets that try to intercept it from a different body but usually arrive too late to...

Re: Intercept trajectories question

Now that cut's both ways, good players have used it to send the alien doomstack to Pluto at griddrive speed This is why I actually bug-reported it because when you know it you always intercept enemies that are on safe to you trajectories (eg. that lead to your own stations) but they are helpless, c...

Re: [Scenario] Against All Odds (spoiler warning)

I have to say that in some previous .5x or .4x version (I don't remember) the scenario was constantly crashing at December 13th 2023 but in .54 and .55 it so far works nicely (even when loading the save that previously was crashing).

Alien base caps

As we have "increased alien base caps on veteran and brutal" in the changelog to version .54 I have questions: 1. Are we talking about limits to the number of alien bases? 2. If above is true, are stations really excluded from these limits? This is important because if both are true then I...

I think the list alone wouldn't make sense but the descriptions to it are great tips for not experienced enough players showing them opportunities and playstyles they haven't thought about, yet.

Re: Critique of Mid-to-Late Game Progression, by SillySMS

Yes, I do think you wasted a tonne of resources on unusable ships, but to each his own. You spammed unmovable missle boats and already "won" the game? I am not sure why you missed this info from my previous posts but these "unusable" and "unmovable" missile boats...

Re: Critique of Mid-to-Late Game Progression, by SillySMS

IMO, Operation center is a non-issue. Earth MC is more than sufficient to win campaign, the limit on decent mining cites pretty much means any spam strategy is pointless. You would probably win much faster by not wasting your resources to get more MC to waste more resources and MC to build mines, t...

Re: Critique of Mid-to-Late Game Progression, by SillySMS

Didn't you just presume too much? I didn't suggest you stop blaming your luck - just luck, generally. I took the example you provided as if it wasn't about you - perhaps when you read the cite again you will see that I am saying "someone", "a player" not "you". Why do y...

Re: [Feature] Ability to set many tiers of command or Roster+

I have to say that changes from 0.3.50 introducing multi-ship selection during combat are already very helpful and an important step in the right direction. However, they still demand many clicks in every battle you want to use the mechanics. I hope they could be combined with above suggestions (and...

I wouldn't like if this thread evolve into discussing luck but I think you perceive it wrong and it's just the other way around: the most strategic game is our life and you will probably agree it's not bereft of luck. Chess is just a game with simple rules that can be easily coded and this is why it...

I played the early game about 20 validation versions ago so I could only estimate the current state of it depending on changelogs but what happens at this stage is not really a problem because the Aliens should be overconfident and a determined skillful player should win many spectacular victories f...

Russia has almost zero support for my faction and very high support for another faction. It seems a complete waste to spend all my turns and precious influence with at best a 20% chance of getting one control point.   I've tried.  Some other faction takes over while I waste my time. I see you alrea...
