Is there a Penalty for not Investigating Alien Activity?
You get +1% on alien research every time a councilor investigates an Alien Activity (crashed UFO, shimmery abduction site). But this bonus maxes out at +50%. At that point, is there any reason to continue investigating these site?

I've noted this trade off as well. Didn't do anything quite so scientific.

I had the same problem. It is always a temptation to run up and shotgun the problem away... Then another pod activates and it is even farther away and your assault is exposed... ugh. I agree that the preferred fix is a tweak to Muton AI making melee less likely. Say 90% chance they melee. Would result in much the same survival chance, though. So I loaded from the a previous save, and played through the level. And everything went fine.
I assume the bug is caused by a very specific event. Perhaps overdrive skill on spark, or something else.
