Just had a supply raid that started out with a big fire on a chokepoint, out of LOS from my squad.
About 10 aliens burned themselves to death and another 10 or so got burn wounds, as they persisted in running through the flames.

All I can offer is that you shouldn't build Power Plant on coils anyway, as it will give you only 7 free power

Having an uncompleted Network Tower mission spikes vigilance as well.
I was too slow with research in my first game (and did not understand Advent strength) and both my open Network Towers spiked to 10. This made the missions impossible to do for me.
