Re: GOG Update

0.4.18 is up on GOG

Yay for a 0.4 release, but I had other plans for my free time this week

Re: Thoughts and Suggestions on Space Combat

I won't argue here whether beam PD should affect unguided solid slugs, but solid slug PD should definitely affect unguided solid slug projectiles. At the very least they'd deflect them somewhat, based on mutual momentum. That's a good point, though I do wonder how effective a solid slug PD would be...

Re: Thoughts and Suggestions on Space Combat

Are flying bricks still the dominant strategy? I thought that had shifted somewhat. Eh. Personally, I'm looking forward to better AI (including more design variation) and the overall changes to weapons :+1: (I agree that plasma doesn't quite fit your "unguided solid" class--it can't be PD...

Re: Predicting Future Space Combat

I saw your original post, but any rebuttal from me felt like one person saying "But what about these other design ideas?" and the second person saying "That's not the game we have here" with very little to back up either position  I appreciate that you took the time to consi...

Re: What to do about "Erratic Leader Behavior"?

The Codex has a surprising amount of info! I think it does a decent job of condensing things, but there is just so much detail in this game that it's still difficult to take it all in. The Codex does have holes; not all formulae inputs are listed for everything. But I still recommend you try to beco...

Re: A plea for SI units

Regarding antimatter production: yes the prefix 'a' is used (among others), but the unit of space resources is elsewhere noted to be decatonnes, seemingly based on 1 boost = "1 decatonne into LEO". This makes antimatter prefixes confusing for everyone  I haven't been able to easily f...

Re: What to do about "Erratic Leader Behavior"?

To answer the original question--it's "all of the above", and sum of science across all councilors. I think the codex lists Council Science as one modifier to those types of alien missions, once it shows them. Otherwise, the message you posted is one of the few places that alerts the playe...

Re: A plea for SI units

Since you called out "gees" as a spelling, I've since noticed some places where the game spells it out like that. Apparently "gs" is ok but "milligs" is not? "kps" feels to me like a possible Americanism. I recognize "ps" as "per second&qu...

Re: A plea for SI units

Not being used to the SI system myself, I find g (or gees or g's) a common usage for standard gravity. The opening paragraphs of Wikipedia's articles on " Gravity of Earth " and " standard gravity " both refer to `g` as a constant... but the " g-force " article clearly ...

Re: Suggestion regarding late-game global warming

I agree that without hard numbers and a better understanding of scale, a lot of this may not be worth modeling. The big thing that keeps confusing me is you keep saying energy is "consumed". To me, that's a direct violation of Conversation of Energy. I think we'll need to reach a mutual un...

Re: Suggestion regarding late-game global warming

Also renewable power should provide cooling as we are using up solar radiation for something else then heating up our planet. This is a tangent, but this is also a hard SF area so I want to take a more detailed look at this idea. Veritasium's video "The Most Misunderstood Concept in Physics&qu...

I've heard rumors that xenoforming reduces atmospheric carbon, but haven't gone codediving to verify.

Re: We need a way to deal with enthrall. Here's my proposal

Spoiler warning about alien mechanics: Enthrall actualy has quite a low succes chance by default. It having souch a high succes chance, is a result of the abductions the player let happen , but this is never explained during the game. The codex does list abductions as a bonus to many alien activiti...

Re: Suggestion: Allow ship class name changes on invalid refits.

So it turns out that the name is not locked and uneditable. The problem (and it might just be my problem and that everybody else figured it out instantly), is that it looks like the name is there, and the keys that would normally be used to edit something there (delete and the arrow keys) don't do ...

GOG Update

In case anyone plays the GOG version (like me) and doesn't check there after every update--
I see that 0.3.98 is now up, we are no longer stuck at 0.3.76 :D

I think I shall abandon my slow Exodus playthrough [just need another 300 exotics!] and see if I can get any further with the Initiative.

Re: Councillor Loyalty - some questions

I've only really played on Normal mode and version <= 0.76 -- but with the possible exception of some 0-loyalty shenanigans, I've not seen any effects of my own councilors being compromised--and the few times I've been suspicious and investigated my own folk, they've always been clean. If I have som...

Re: Can the human AI fight in space?

So to anyone else who has done longer-running campaigns: Is the human AI capable of actually building fleets and wielding them against the other factions? I'm in a Exodus campaign, approaching 2060 [v.0.3.76 on GOG]. I've researched everything I think I need to, so I'm in the process of breaking up...
