It's no Long War.

The game is a lot of fun, and I haven't finished the campaign yet, but I've definitely come up with a routine way to do each of the maps. While I'm pleasantly surprised at times (the Avatar was a fun one... I popped it the first time in the middle of a mission; it took control of my best sniper, who proceeded to wipe out everyone but my Ranger - and she only escaped by killing her best friend & evacing out), but, in general, it seems like this is a step back into the kiddie pool. I haven't had a "that's XCOM, baby!" moment yet; maybe I will at harder difficulties...but still...

It's a testament to just how good a game Long War is, how deep the system goes and how masterfully wrought it is. Thanks for creating it!

Yeah, i definitively agree. With my few vacation weeks before going to college, i played and finished it (Surprisingly) and i wasn't satisfied. The story is amazing, but some many details i've seen in Long War aren't there. I mean, no fatigue, lesser unit types, etc.

LWS should dedicate on making Long War 2, for the best.

Can't agree more.

I will say that on higher difficulties you'll notice more pain.

What difficulty are you playing? It might just be that I'm getting rusty, but I can't do a mission without getting at least one soldier wounded. Doesn't help that I messed with the inis and so I got mutons by 3rd mission :evil: .

Mostly veteran, I've several games running as I'm testing mods.

Speaking of which, one of the 'problems' with injury timers on XCOM 2 is the lack of granularity, Gravely wounded is a headache and combined with Shaken (which is broken and pretty silly imho) can kill your game.

IIRC Shaken sets Will to 0 (in the army we usually give those people some special medicine until they can walk again).

And depending on difficulty can happen more often;

rookie 20%, 1 successful mission to recover.
veteran 25%, 2 successful mission to recover.
commander 25%, 2 successful mission to recover.
legendary 30%, 3 successful mission to recover.

When recovered gain 4-12 Will.

A big issue is those percentages are checked too often, you'd think it would apply to bleeding out or going to 1 HP but it's much more prevalent.

Things that need to change (although I need to explore the code more);

1) Wound severity granularity, change from 4 categories to probably 5+. This means that the chances of being classified as a Shaken target is lower. Something like, Minor, Minimal, Moderate, Major, Mortal. Only getting the shaken chance if wounded to 1 or below.

2) Shaken chance then would need to go up a bit, since it's now targetting 'worthy' soldiers. I'd consider even to have two levels of Shaken, maybe call the other Scared or whatever. One gives a -30 Will, the other a -60 Will, or whatever.

3) Recovery from shaken currently gives a pretty huge will boost (which funny enough doesn't mitigate the condition in the future). I would like to reduce the amount and because of changing the will penalty it will reduce their chance in the future of being shaken.

Anyway it's part of a mod fix I'll push out unless someone gets to it first, however, no idea when, as much as I want this to be a priority I've got lots else I'm doing. :)

Mind you if I could somehow find out how to add Fatigue and to code a perk similar to long war to reduce it and/or injuries, then that'd be on the plate too.

Just doing a leisurely run on Veteran at the moment - thinking about abandoning it & going for higher stakes. My 95% shots always hit & my 33%-take-over-mechs always land...

THAT'S IT. I CALL HACKS. WHAT KIND OF BULLSHIT SPECIALIST DID YOU DREAM UP AND PUT IN THE INI.
95% chance to take control of an random enemy unit. AND I FAIL. WHAT KIND OF BULLSHIT IS THIS.

Hah! My specialist has missed hacks - even 95% - but they're usually the inconsequential ones. He's grabbed a couple "raise hacking skills by 20" and has not once missed taking over an enemy unit. It's kinda awesome raining hate down on a guardian with a sectopod.
