I recently played a game in which I ignored the "Alien Origins" tech, and thus ended up defeating a alien warship before unlocking the SalvageAlienWarship objective. This led to exotics tech not being unlocked despite looting the alien destroyer. Is this intended behavior? Are there other events that require completing objectives in the "normal" order?

When you unlocked the objective later, were you able to unlock the tech? Or were you denied permanently?

The salvage objective triggered fine and the tech unlocked once I researched the Alien Origins, it was just somewhat confusing. (There was a weird bug where the salvage objective message triggered twice, but it was only cosmetic.)
