LWotC News and Announcements

Hi all.

I talked to one of the LWOTC Command Team members and they told me that they welcome everyone with any questions or suggestions to head over to the LWOTC Discord. They also provide progress reports and news over there as well.

There are a number of public channels for suggestions and general discussion, along with channels for announcements and surveys, so if you’d like to keep up to date on the project’s progress, provide feedback or volunteer to help with the project, drop by and say hello. People there are very friendly.

For convenience, here's the link again: https://discord.gg/K9XXgKm

Please note, the link provided here is the most recent version and shouldn't offer complications trying to access the discord server.

After some discussion, I’ve been asked to keep the people on this forum posted on how LWOTC is coming along.

I’ll be posting official announcements and updates from the team and helping to facilitate discussion along with passing on suggestions and ideas.

For now, here's the links detailing their current progress:

There’s now a LW perk pack available on Steam, authored by LWotC’s very own Favid. This is a port of the base LW2 classes to WotC with the skill trees of 1.5 rather than an indication of what the classes will look like in LWotC.

Make sure to check it out and as always, feel free to check out the Discord server is you have any questions or suggestions.

Thanks for keeping us updated. I like that that you can upgrade all the classes like you could the special classes in WotC.

Any updates? I checked the discord but can't find any info regarding how the development is going.

I'm afraid not. Soon as there is though, I'll post it here.

Does anyone else smell that?

*sniff*

Yeah, vaporware

Technically speaking, you can't smell water vapor if that's what you are referring to :) .

But yeah... I must say I had a bad feeling about this project from the start. The lack of communication certainly doesn't help. So far, what did we get? A perk pack from one guy of the team? A bit light after 8 months if you ask me. Are they developing a mod or a whole new game?

I don't mean to be disrespectful or diss the team in any way but I can't help feeling concerned.

Sorry for the delay just needed to check some details but there is going to be something new released into the wild soon...

It's just a case of there being some bugs that need ironing out.

As always, the Discord is there if you've got questions about the project as well.

So, there's been an announcement made on Discord the other day regarding the Alien Pack, quoted here for your convenience:
The Alien Pack is currently late into the testing phase. However, our lead developer's PCs are out of commission. At this time, we're hoping to have the AP released, hopefully within the next few months, if not weeks. Just some minor tweaking and of course playtesting to work on.

It is a slow process but the end results going to be worth it.

I just picked LW2 up again and I'm still amazed how good this mod is. So if the LWotC devs want to achieve at least the same level of greatness, they certainly have their work cut out for them. Can't play WotC, it's just too boring despite all the new candies, bug fixes and engine optimization.

Hello, LWotC Designer and Extended Command here. I wanted to take a moment to comment on the worries brought up in this thread.

We are aware that the project is taking a long time, and i would like to simply ask for patience and a bit of trust. We understand your concerns. If we could we would have released the mod already, since we probably want to play it just as much as you do.

The matter of fact is simply that LWotC is a community project, and a big undertaking. Our Command and Design Team have been consistently managing the mod since it was announced, and we definitely haven't given up yet. But things are looking a bit different on the development and art side. People are volunteers, which means that their school/jobs and other reallife obligations come first. And its a lot of work for the people that are around.
Secondly, i would like to remind you that LW2 also took a long time to develop, and the community simply wasn't aware of it due to 2K's decision to keep it a secret. If you consider how long it took and how impatient people can get with such projects, you can see why they decided to do that. But since we are relying on volunteers and public feedback that wasn't an option for us.

As The13Inquisitor said before, we are always open for questions on our discord, and if you do have experience with coding and/or XCOM 2 modding please consider if you would like to contribute to the mod. In addition, i will also be present on this forum from now on, and will take some time to inform you about our design decisions so that you can know what to expect from and suggest for the project.

While you're absolutely correct that LW2 took a long time to develop I'd be willing to bet that after this much time had passed they would have had something to show for their efforts. You mention the community part and yet there are other modders out there that have much more to show and in less time, some of them also have full time jobs and to make matters worse they are often working by themselves. So what is the difference here, does the LWotC "team" not have anyone doing actual implementation and only people that want to tell others what needs to be done?

I mean there's plenty of people, on these forums alone, that could plan out a wonderful experience for a LWotC, what is it that your team is doing other than daydreaming about possibilities? I saw on the discord that you almost had the Alien Pack done but the code has been misplaced or something? Even if that was done, what all was in the Alien Pack that you spent 8 months planning and working on? I see active people on the team that are online and chatting with people constantly, can they not do any of the actual work?

Look, I'll admit that I'm extremely skeptical that anything will ever come from the LWotC team, which is disappointing, but I don't mean this as any disrespect. These are questions I would ask myself and standards I would hold myself to if I were working on such a project. You have many team members that are actively planning things...always, and nothing else. Try opening up the tools and making some small changes, then move toward more small changes, then maybe you will eventually get some pretty big things done without waiting for someone else to do the work for you.

Neither do I own XCOM 2 nor do I have idea what LW2 has done with it but as an experienced volunteer-modder of XCOM/LW1 I totally understand and support you. Players often do not understand that work in progress is simply unplayable until finished. I do. Good luck guys! (and gals :) )

szmind, as I said I mean no offense I just would like to see a LWotC at some point and it seems under the current team that is never gonna happen. If you dig hard enough you can see the times they have had someone actively working on something on their github they established some time ago. They have about 4 different people that have worked on things in small bursts a handful of times, yet they have a "team" that is extremely large. Only 1 of the leaders is included in those 4 people.

I had a whole bunch of other stuff written down and honestly it just isn't worth it. This team is led by people that want to tell others what to do instead of doing the work themselves then accepting help from those willing to help along the way. They aren't going to get anywhere that way. They may get some people that will come in for a time and do what the leadership wants, but after they realize they are the only ones working on anything they will disappear, just like the one who had the Alien Pack "nearly completed".

Hmm, if that is the case (team of "designers" instead of "developers") then indeed it is gonna be Long Way or Long Worry instead of Long War :)

In the workshop about 75 mods that are transferred from LW2 to WotC. 75. Enemies, classes, weapons and mechanics.
So what exactly are you doing then? :?:

I wasn't aware there were that many. Don't think there's any argument coming from the current LWotC team though. From the sound of the discussion on discord they seem to be packing it in. They stated they had a great design team but development fell off when the lead dev went MIA due to RL issues.

Well, the Long War of the Chosen project is for all intents and purposes dead due to issues IRL.

The attempt to get the alien pack and possibly a couple of others is being made however.

Best of luck to anyone who decides to do anything similar going forward.
