I'm into mid April in my 1.2 campaign and had an occasion where i took 2 high aim rookies along for the ride on a 6 man infiltration. Success, and promotion was available for both. I had specific roles in mind for these 2 guys as i needed another gunner & sharpshooter (already had 2 in the gts - technical and grenadier). Exitted back to the avenger, saved the game.. as i knew some savescumming may be required to land these 2 new guys either of the classes i'd desired. First guy became a gunner first pop, so all's good and i resaved the game. The second guy - low health,movement & hacking but 70aim & 10defense - would ideally be a sniper or another aim reliant class.
Assault (13movement), specialist(41hack on spec), shinobi(movement), technical(movement) and the occasional Grenadier(already have 4) all showed up on my savescumming, none of the other 3 classes i'd be comfortable with. This is after 20+ reloads.
Question is: What are the mechanics behind which class a promoted squaddie receives? Do soldiers spawn with a specific number (5?) possible random classes without the use of the gts? My current soldier class list isnt imbalanced, 3-4 of basically everything.
I'll happily use this guy as a medical specialist or another grenadier .. or am i just incredibly unlucky on rolls? would be up to 30+ reloads while writting this post
