Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
As the title says, just wondering if there is any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons? Both have same ability unlocks as you rank up or no?

Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
Every class in LW2 has a completely different ability tree.
You can turn on the option "view locked perks" to take a look at the ability trees.
That said, if you literally have 2 classes called "Ranger" you might have a bug. Do you have 2 classes called "Ranger" in your game?

Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
I know about the different ability trees since I have played this game many months ago but I do literally have two different Ranger classes when in the character creation screen. They are both called Ranger but one is equipped with shotgun and sword while the other has assault rifle and sawed off shotgun. Upon looking at the classes further, I also have two Sharpshooters and two Grenadier as well each with different loadouts as well. So I'm assuming this isn't a bug and maybe it's so there is a loadout option??? If so I'm wondering if the ability trees are the same. No one else have duplicate classes?mattprice516 wrote:Every class in LW2 has a completely different ability tree.

Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
...you should not have duplicate classes, no. It sounds like the game hasn't properly disabled the base XCOM2 classes or you've left the Long War Perk Pack enabled.
The correct combo there is the AR+sawnoff.
V. much a bug, likely caused by you and/or the game not disabling mods properly.

Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
Hmmm. Guess I'll have to do some investigating as to what's going on. What are the appropriate loadouts for the Grenadier and Sharpshooter? For Grenadier I have one with Assault rifle as primary (I believe this is right one) and one with the gunner's class machine gun as primary. For Sharpshooter I have one with pistol on leg (I believe this is right one) and one with pistol on back.Arcalane wrote:...you should not have duplicate classes, no. Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
For the Sharpshooter, the correct loadout is the holotargeter (on back). Pistol would be either the base XCOM 2 class or from PerkPack (which should be disabled).DougS2K wrote: Hmmm. Standard below refers to AR/Shotgun/SMG;DougS2K wrote:Hmmm. Guess I'll have to do some investigating as to what's going on. What are the appropriate loadouts for the Grenadier and Sharpshooter? Assault - Standard, Arc Thrower
Ranger - Standard, Sawnoff Shotgun
Shinobi - Standard, Sword
Grenadier - Standard, Grenade Launcher
Sharpshooter - Sniper Rifle, Holotargeter
Technical - Standard, Gauntlet
Gunner - Cannon, Combat Knife
Specialist - Standard, Gremlin
Pistols are now a 'utility' slot item that any class can use, and pistol perks are instead developed through the Advanced Warfare Center.
Make sure you've disabled the Long War Perk Pack in the mod launcher, then go into My Documents/My Games/XCOM2/XComGame/Config/ and at the very least delete XComModOptions.ini. If you want to ensure that no errant bits of old mod code are left behind, I suggest purging the entire directory and letting the game rebuild them.
If you successfully purged the LWPP classes, all of the LWPP class soldiers will be changed to a kind of "null" class with no skills or promotion data. Unfortunately, the fact you have broken classes in your save means you'll have to start over again -- unless you can use the console to reset their class to a working one (though this will bump them down to Squaddie rank).
Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
Hmm. Well I've disabled all mods and when I do that I have no duplicate classes. Once I re able the LW2 mod then when the duplicates show up. Very strange and not sure how to fix it without doing a complete re install of the game... If that will even work.Amineri wrote:For the Sharpshooter, the correct loadout is the holotargeter (on back). Will try this now. I was building custom characters before I started the game so no worries on losing a save file or any progress at least.Arcalane wrote:Standard below refers to AR/Shotgun/SMG;DougS2K wrote:Hmmm. Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
Purged all the files in that folder and let the game rebuild them. Still same problem. Im wondering if it has anything to do with this error msg I'm getting with the mod launcher. Not sure what to make of it and thought nothing of it since the mods were working other then the duplicate classes. New game button was changed to long war 2 and the custom armor and camoflage mods were working fine. I believe I had a similar problem months ago with the mod launcher if I remember correctly but don't remember the fix. Googling to try to resolve it in hopes to fix the problem. If that is the problem of course.Arcalane wrote:Standard below refers to AR/Shotgun/SMG;DougS2K wrote:Hmmm. Guess I'll have to do some investigating as to what's going on. Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
That looks like an exciting error.
I recommend verifying your game files in Steam (right click game title -> Properties -> Local Files tab -> Verify Integrity of Game Files button) before doing anything else, then.
If the launcher/game still produces errors after that, the alternative mod launcher might be worth a try.

Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
Hmm, that error is a new one to me. It sounds like there might a problem with the launcher executable. I'd suggest using the steam "Verify Integrity of Game Files..."
Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
LOL Yeah exciting indeed. Verifying the files now. Hope that fixes the problem. Might just do a good old wipe and reinstall regardless since I havent actually started a save game yet and will let it reinstall to the default location. Can't hurt at least. Thanks for all the help and I'll post back the results. If I actually get it done tonight.Arcalane wrote:That looks like an exciting error.

Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
Well I fixed the error msg but still getting duplicates no matter what I try. Last thing I'll try is to redownload the LW2 mod again and see if that helps. If not I guess I'll just deal with it. LOL
Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
I have surrendered to the duplicates. Tried everything and I just can't get rid of them. Guess I'll just pretend they're not there. lol
Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
I might have the same issue as well, no perk pack downloaded and happens on the Character Pool screen I believe!
This is abnormal?

Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
Are you installing the old Long War mods alongside Long War 2? You only want one single mod installed, 'Long War 2'.
Hmn you said you don't have the perk pack. Just burn everything to the ground and reinstall, clear out the XCOM folder in your /Documents/MyGames and everything, etc.

Expunging Config first, verifying cache. Expunging the 3 previous LW packs I have which were;JackDT wrote:Are you installing the old Long War mods alongside Long War 2? You only want one single mod installed, 'Long War 2'.

- LeaderShip
Alien Leaders
SMG
- Long War 2 Tactical Suppressors
- Accurate Swords (A sword shouldn't miss...)
- UseMyClass
- LifeTime Stats
- Bleed Out Mod [Disabled]
- It's Just a Scratch [Disabled]
- Titanfall Spark Armor
- XCOM EU Helmet Mods
- Blacklight Retribution Helmets
- Vivid Hair Color Extended
- Overwatch Tracer (Don't judge me...)
- Overwatch Tracer Voice Pack
- Ink and Paint Mod
Windows 7 64bit Pro [Up to date]
AMD 290x
FX 8370
16gb RAM
Again, I just expunged the XCOM official config and am verifying through steam right now. Will give a heads up... Unfortunately reinstalling is not an option, I freaking don't want to download that crap lol... I have a slow internet connection.
**UPDATE**
Mkay everything verified and still suffering the same issue, I still see all the vanilla classes on-top of all the longwar classes as in that picture when in Character Pool. This is abnormal eh?

Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
Hey just thought I'd weight in as I have the same.
The old classes do still show in the character pool but they won't be accessible in the campaign. The bottom eight classes in the pool's class menu are for LW2 make sure select the further most down version of the class for double ups to get the LW2 version (tested this a lot personally). Hope this helps.

Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
Good to know they won't show in campaign. That's pretty much all I was concerned with. As long as the proper classes show up when playing I can just manually remember what class not to make for custom characters.foreverdead wrote:Hey just thought I'd weight in as I have the same.

Re: Any difference between the two ranger classes other then starting weapons?
Yeah, the old classes show up in the character pool editor because Long War removed them from play, not from the game. The only time this would come up would be with a LW2-compatible version of Use My Class, in which case always use the second versions.
They made all the new versions of the characters from scratch rather than editing the vanilla ones because it's more compatible that way. Other mods can still refer to or reactivate the vanilla classes.

Ohh ok. So just to confirm, everyone that's seeing this issue is only seeing it in the Character Pool?
