[Idea] More supply raid types

Post by NephilimNexus »

Right now there is really only one type of supply raid: the train. It's always spawned with two days time or less, making it impossible to infiltrate. It always turns into a big fight between ten of your soldiers versus 37+ Advent. And in the end the rewards are... lacking. There has got to be a better way. So here we go...

First, we break up the train raid into four different types of raid. I will call these the Heist, the Depot, the Train and the Laboratory.

The Heist would be a basic random mission generated by Intel and would not require any progression/liberation links or other prerequisites. It would get standard infiltration timers and have a base absolute minimal Advent presence (6-8 troops). The target would be an Advent truck. However, unlike the other truck missions the target is not a locked container in the back that you have to open the doors to get to. Instead the truck itself is the target, coded so that the cab is the hack target and thus can be hit by a Gremlin from a distance. The other change would be that there would be a secondary objective of Neutralize All Hostiles, even though the mission would not have a forced evac timer or allow recovering bodies. This is because if you meet the two goals of hacking the truck and eliminating the guards it is presumed that your team steal the truck, pile into the back, and head out of town in a big hurry. The reward for the heist would be small, since it would be relatively easy - probably 30-50 supply and maybe a couple of low quality weapon mods. Nothing fancy, but enough to hire a few recruits or make some cheap gear.

The Depot would come from Following a Lead and be a bonus mission generated from completing that task. The lead would be of a supply depot that is currently poorly defended as Advent shifts units around. The base time window would be average, around 7 days, so the player can expect to be able to squeeze in about 5-6 troops depending on their Intel roll. Enemy defenses at 100% infiltration would be fairly light, around 8-12 Advent troops with 1 or 2 aliens mixed in. The goal would be a straight-forward "Kill Everything" mission, and bodies could be recovered. However, there would be a timer on the depot that works the same as the one from the UFO mission: It must be hacked within 8 turns of being spotted or it will trigger infinite reinforcement waves (thus making completing the mission neigh impossible, forcing an evac/abort). Since plowing through more enemies to get to the control station without destroying all the supply crates is a little trickier, the rewards should be average. Probably around 70 supply, along with the usual smattering of alien alloys and elerium dust.

Now the Train mission would still be the awful hell-grind that it already is, but it wouldn't be focused on general supplies. Rather it would trigger when Intel discovers Advent moving more troops into a region. This mission would be the counter to that, and if you can actually manage to kill all 37+ Advent that show up for this mess then Advent strength in the region drops by 2 points. Also, instead of the massive supplies that was given before, now it only gives few actual general goods (supplies, alloys, elerium) but makes up for that with a few pieces of very high end equipment: Two or three elite weapon mods, or actual equipment such as a suit of Predator armor or a pair of laser rifles - even if the player hasn't gotten the technology to make this gear themselves.

Finally, the Laboratory would be an easier mission but would require a Lead to uncover first, and would be a generated reward mission similar to the Depot. The key difference is that the setting would be in a city (as opposed to the usual wilderness) and it would be a basic hacking a computer assignment. When the hack is finished you get two rewards: The first would be a fixed adding two weeks to the Doom clock (so the next pip is slowed by two weeks). as you Stuxnet the Avatar project a little. The second would be one or two top-tier PCS units (max stats for their class) from the lab itself. This would be a timed mission with a manual evac, and no body recovery.
