Re: Looking for a Long War 2 Primer

I saw the subforum but since I am starting from scratch I would have no context for most of the specific information, plus it's literally a subforum filled with dozens if not hundreds of posts. The compendium looks like exactly what I was after, thank you! You will absoultely need this information ...

Re: Damage Calculation

Well, the interface shows you - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1626154354 Maybe it's the Perfect Information mod, but not sure... So my typical weapon damage was 7-12, and the crit was shown as 7, with pretty high chance (regardless). So I was expecting a minimum of 7 if I d...

Re: Damage Calculation

So I had a 100% shot with a sniper, 7-12 plus 7 crit. The shot hits with a crit, but for 13. Shouldn't the min with crit be 14? Is this possible, or a bug? Thanks. So you were expecting 19 damage and only got 13, is that right? I've only seen a percentage to crit. Never seen an actual crit value un...

Re: How long until you moved on?

I couldn't take it any more. Started a new Legendary LW2 campaign over the Christmas break. It's insanely difficult. Feels like coming home... It's nice to have a great game with great mods that make you just love playing. The Walker Texas Ranger voicepacks really help make the game for me, along wi...

Re: How long until you moved on?

Phantom Doctrine got boring pretty fast. Same with WOTC. Phoenix Point doesn't look all that interesting to me. I'm done gaming for the most part. Been there. I'll probably run another LW campaign at some point, since it really is the best game ever. But the new stuff has like zero depth.

Re: How long until you moved on?

After having watched a few missions of Phantom Doctrine, I'm thinking it might be too tedious for me to get into. Every little action has to be performed bit by bit. I may give it a tumble, but I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that I'm done with new PC Gaming. As I get older, it could be that I ...

Re: How long until you moved on?

This conversation had me thinking about new games and what was out there. So I checked YouTube and found video clips and trailers for upcoming titles of various genres. Jeeze, it’s still 1997 in game development. Actually it’s worse. Games are shinier, but they seem much less interesting. They are n...

Re: How long until you moved on?

Phantom Doctrine is out in a month. Huh... I didn't even know this was coming. Looks interesting and I don't have too long to wait. Cool, thanks! This is a vibe I can get into. As much as I love long LW2, after a couple campaigns it kinda has a "been there" feel to it. Prolly because I've...

Anything else out there worth playing? Not Xenonauts... That game is way too ugly to bear.

Re: 50 aim starting soldiers? how?

I had problems with mods at one point. I couldn't even run the game unless I deleted the config ini every time I started it. Number 1 of this list solved all the problems for me. Hopefully it's something simple: Troubleshooting mods Whenever you have some mods not working or fail to disable properly...

Re: what's an average month to win by for players who are experienced at xcom, but not at longwar2? on veteran?

I don't think there's anything wrong with liberating your starting region. At least, I haven't found anything wrong with it. But I think you want try to skip over the adjacent regions to do most of your missions, if possible. I generally try to avoid Liberation Retaliations but they can go either wa...

Re: what's an average month to win by for players who are experienced at xcom, but not at longwar2? on veteran?

I've only played 1 campaign at veteran which ended in February of the second year and am working another that will end much later (victory is questionable). Mine is currently in January of the 2nd year and I haven't even Researched the Blacksite vial or even skull jacked a Codex although that should...

I would think the suppression would debuff, and negate the covering fire.

Re: Commander Honestman Campaign

With AP Rounds and Walk Fire he's well-able to take out any drones or stragglers for which Combat Protocol is often used. It's a flip of Specialist and Ranger roles for sure, but one I'm quite happy with as it gives me multiple OWs at LCpl instead of GSgt. While Combat Protocol can be valuably used...

Re: Commander Honestman Campaign

Funny you say give the red screens to a pistol wielder. My Technical has mad pistol skilz so she did get the Red Screens. I had her in the pistol tank for a long time, since I never used her, so she has all but one. I'd completely forgotten about her till I looked her up. I also gave some to my Psi ...

Re: Commander Honestman Campaign

I'm trying out a hybrid build for Technicals: FitH, Fortify, Shredder, Formidable, Incinerator, Quickburn, and BB. The idea is to have reliable rockets for cover destruction, survivability when flaming for control, and perpetual utility with Shredder. They haven't really performed better or worse t...

Re: Commander Honestman Campaign

Sounds like your campaign is going pretty well. Just as a note, my "Big Picture" Strategy is: Lasers in April Magnetics in Mid May/Early June Liberate 2 Regions by Mid August, then stop Liberating. MSGTs in July/August Coil in August. I'd tend to have more High Level Rangers than you by no...

Re: Commander Honestman Campaign

All fair enough. I guess that I did miss the point you made about mission phases (early, late, etc). I've never actively thought about it in those terms as it's something I just do without thinking much about it. Every unit has a time when it's actions and perks are more or less optimal during an en...

day one Late game Not my point. I said "early phase" and "late phase" to disambiguate from "earlygame" and "lategame". I should have been more explicit and outright said "first pod" vs "last pod". You're not going to have Assaults live lon...

Re: Commander Honestman Campaign

@Psieye: Those are all good points you make. However, concerning Assaults, for me the shotgun to the face is a day one tactic, typically killing the last remaining high HP enemy from a particular pod. When 90% of their shots will crit, I can't see not using it. Late game, Assaults are useful crowd c...

Re: Commander Honestman Campaign

You seem to be finding your own style, which is very cool. Composition wise, I tend to balance the strong with a weaker soldier or two. You end up with two strong squads pretty quickly as the EXP starts to add up. I usually end up with 3 strong squads that can handle pretty much any mission and a 4t...

Re: Commander Honestman Campaign

My basic GOp squad composition is: Shinobi (you ALWAYS need to have a scout. Don't blow your concealment) 2 Rangers, Shotgun Assault, Grenadier, Specialist. Grenadiers don't get a vest, only flashbangs and grenades. They are there for crowd control, not to get mixed up in the fight, so leave them be...

Re: Commander Honestman Campaign

I have this ridiculous idea that I can somehow eliminate this pod of three, not activate the pod of two on the other side of the van, throw the evac, then clamber in the van to shut the doors and wait for our ride. I've been thinking more about this. What if it didn't matter that I activated everyt...

Re: Commander Honestman Campaign

I'm giving up (at least temporarily) my attempt to LWify WOTC into an acceptable state. WOTC introduces fun concepts but it's still so lacking in strategic depth *cry*. After seeing faket15 share his LW 1.5 bugfixes, I decided to return to the real deal with the goal of actually finishing a campaig...
