Re: WotC LW2 Idea: Sparks

SHIVs in XCom1 didn't level or improve (other than upgraded gear) right?

You should google it, I found like 5 different versions when looking for one I could post here, I was surprised with the evolution too :D

Re: So Johnny and the devs ...

The obvious solution is that a potential LWotC use both Infiltration and Fatigue together. It's another pair of interacting features that need to have their respective influences judged and together be balanced. But that's not just a drawback but a synthesis that can deliver more that either alone....

Re: So Johnny and the devs ...

More importantly, in _most_ situations (games are, actually, one of the very few exceptions), what the customer _wants_ will change repeatedly before you're done. And then you discover that what they want and what they actually need bear absolutely no relationship to each other. And then you start ...

Re: So Johnny and the devs ...

True, but on the other hand figuring out what will be the optimal solution before starting to build the house is better than changing mind once it's half-built. So while ideas are super cheap, they are also good to have many of from many different viewpoints, then the devs can feel confident they ha...

Re: So Johnny and the devs ...

I can't speak for PI specifically, but having been in creative charge of similar projects with random people coming with ideas, I'd say that yes obviously someone will come with some simple idea and solution that made me think "why didn't I think of that?" and immediately use that. But for...

Re: My Long War of the Chosen ideas

This also removes one of my most hated things, being unable to equip your squad with the new gear that you got the day after you were forced to start the Infiltration. You still get to gear out the Mission squad right before launching on the mission and that gear doesn't get locked away for 5 days ...

Re: Request to LW2 team

That does seem like a logical way to approach it. Adding all the required assets in their own packs, then finally tying it together as a whole.

Well the most logical in-game way to have that work would be a mission that just ends without extraction (just not letting you have the corpses since your team needs to "exfiltrate")

Re: Request to LW2 team

I am currently playing WotC and waiting patiently for the epic effort you will put forth to convert LW2 into something that will work with it. You have many stand alone mods that you could easily change into WotC mods. The leader pack, Alien pack, and laser pack are very much missed. I know nothing...

Re: Infiltration vs fatigue

I can't see how fatigue can make it "worse". It is already extremely bad with squads/infiltration. One thing about LW2 that I don't really miss when playing vanilla - is that I don't need nearly as much time to set up squads (and it's not only due to infinite items). LW2 adds so much - la...

Re: Infiltration vs fatigue

I think the main reason I wouldn't want fatigue in LW2 is that I can see how that will in many cases play. You set your first squad on a mission with your best gear, they complete the mission and are fatigued. Now a new mission pops up, so you bring up your second squad, un-equip everyone in first s...

Re: A message to the LW2 team

I do, but for about a couple of hundred hours of Long War 1 and 2 I have never had I soldier captured. All of them found a gruesome end before I could even escape with the remaining soldiers (if any). There are too few stun/unconscious effects at the moment and too much focus on killing you outrigh...

Re: Infiltration vs fatigue

I think XCom2 has always been about snowballing, and it always had a "victory lap" at the end where you know you've won the game and is just going through the motions... the trick is to keep that victory lap down to max 10 missions.

Re: A message to the LW2 team

+1

I tested WotC a little, then returned to my current LW2 campaign (which looks like might be the first one I actually win).

Frankly the only feature WotC has that I really, really wish I had is the performance improvements.

Re: Future of shinobi?

Gene-modded soldiers in Long War 1 had higher fatigue due to the mods (sometimes up to 3 more days of fatigue). That was balanced since every soldier could get those mods, including Psi-ones. LW1 also didn't have incentives in form of bonuses for keeping a squad together on many missions. If that s...

Re: Future of shinobi?

Or maybe the hero factions should be sort of "multi-class" troops, using one path from two different classes and a third unique one?

So Reapers use Shinobi and Sharpshooter, Templars use Psi and Shinobi and Skirmishers use Ranger and Assault (or something...)

Re: Future of shinobi?

Perhaps trying to fold the three hero classes into the 8 classes (mostly into shinobi, psi and ranger? tree), and then have the hero factions still use xcom classes but be more flexible in what perks they get to pick? That way they aren't completely separate from the LW meta, and won't have any over...

Re: Infiltration vs fatigue

Hmm... yeah I could see that working nicely... it would be very different from how LW2 plays currently, but instant missions with forecasts of future missions could be interesting. Not sure I'd prefer it over todays system, but it does sound workable. Hopefully whatever Pavonis decides to do they wi...

Re: Infiltration vs fatigue

In this thread I talk about a hybrid system which uses both Infiltration AND Fatigue simultaneously, as they both have major gameplay implications. How do you feel about having both? Frankly I think that using both will give the drawbacks of both and the advantages of neither. You'd get squads back...

Re: Infiltration vs fatigue

Some interesting points here, especially since although I don't strictly disagree with anything specific you said, I am of the opposite opinion that infiltration is a better system than fatigue (mostly). Fatigue - shortcomings 1) Uneven distribution. I'll admit to not having played much WotC yet, bu...
