Re: Does anyone else train a bunch of suicide Shinobies?

To the comments on non-suicide methods. Yes you could probably do it. Stealth perks, maybe H&R with shadowstrike, maybe whirlwind. With fancy wraith suits and high value PCS. Thing is you'd need to build a soldier around it. Which would be suboptimal much of the rest of the time. And it would st...

Weird challenges in late game

Had an unusual missions in late game with large but severely undergeared squad in September. Anyone else ended up taking on missions in unusual ways later on in the game? This was a squad of 7 on a very light - strength went up to 4 so it was 12 enemies plus a random faceless. Half M2s and half M3s....

Re: Does anyone else train a bunch of suicide Shinobies?

It probably is optimal late game. Rookies are cheap and the GTS slots aren't doing anything else.

But my success rate would be low, it feels gamey, and I don't enjoy the missions much. So I don't.

Re: Best region to liberate?

Honestly I just go for the first 2 or 3 where the opportunity presents itself. Nowadays I stop doing them after about July because HQs with M3s and T2 generals get pretty dicey. You might consider that one of the rewards is a free network tower and your home region already has one. But even that is ...

Re: Best time for HQ assault?

I never get this right in my own campaigns. Joinrbs recommends going early and he understands the strategic layer probably better than anyone. Strength is not a worry. It's a long mission regardless and you don't want to rely on consumables. Taking the full 10 is very punitive on infiltration time. ...

Re: Implacable Rangers

I always take it on 'left side' or centre column rangers. For the latter it's obvious because it works so well with sawn-off. For left side it helps reposition mid-turn and alleviates a major drawback of the class. Also potentially allows sawn-off use but realistically this is limited given movement...

Re: Suppression Question

The aim malus goes if you actually break suppression by getting shot at (though not necessarily hit). It is possible to move out LoS such that the reaction shot doesn't go off but then you are still suppressed. Shadowstep triggers a reaction shot that can't hit but will break the suppression. Area s...

Re: Suicidal snakes

I've lost count of the number of times xwynns ignores a flanked officer because "it's going to move and mark". And it invariably shoots him in the face instead. In general with the possible exception of a shieldbearer with live allies, it's a good idea to to assume the enemy will take a fl...

Snakes don't really understand cars. I mean, obviously they don't drive, since they can't operate the pedals.

Re: Mayhem mechanics?

Hopefully you have a bit more than 70 aim on a gunner by late game! They get +18 through progression. I am trying a holobot officer this campaign. I tried to be clever taking rookies to missions and failed, hence I ended up with low aim sniper but with nice movement and defence. So I thought I'd giv...

Re: Mayhem mechanics?

Pure crit rangers don't do it for me any more because BEO is so underwhelming in LW2. Also I find I use my rangers are often shooting at targets in cover. Kubikiri in AWC would change my mind but otherwise I go for a bit more flexibility. I go WF->LO->CuP->Fort->Imp->RF->KZ. I find it makes a good v...

Re: Need help on avenger defense

Supposedly there is a pull from training button somewhere for avenger defence. You can also use wounded soldiers. The turrets are nice. Thet shoot twice a turn and hit fairly hard. Aim is not great but good against MECs. They also draw enemy fire. But even with turrets you need a proper squad with p...

Re: Unconscious soldiers can activate?!?

Defend works well on GOps because you have to fight through a pod to win.

On HQs and supply raids it causes a hiaitus as you finish the main fight and then creep across the map to find the last pod.

Re: Unconscious soldiers can activate?!?

Must have been Flank. They knew where I was because the vipers saw me as I killed them. And they probably heard the gunfire too. The unconscious soldier just happened to be on the way.

Re: Unconscious soldiers can activate?!?

Home region is starting region I believe. I remember reading something about there being more resource in home region. I guess it's assumed you're more likely to liberate there and wanted to reduce the strategic RNG slightly.

Re: Unconscious soldiers can activate?!?

He wasn't invisible no but it's inconsistent since dead soldiers don't activate (I don't think). It was kind of funny really. Advent standing around my guy looking angry. My guy is like "Go away, I'm sleeping". And then they wander off in separate directions. I could have sucked it up to b...

Unconscious soldiers can activate?!?

HQ mission. Gunner gets knocked unconscious by centurion that LoS hacked my suppression. C'est la vie. Once the rest is cleared out, my shinobi finds the command pod and some vipers are standing still right at the back of the HQ building. So I have to circle round the whole map to get LoS. I kill th...

Re: Mayhem mechanics?

I don't think you should wave rapid fire aside lightly. Cannons hit hard, especially at plasma. And there is always shredder ammo. Those end game enemies take a lot of wearing down to kill. KZ is very situational IMO. Great for breaking concealment but otherwise relies on pods going exactly where yo...

Re: Mayhem mechanics?

Can't answer your actual question I'm afraid. I can say that I quite like suppression gunners. Another way to think about mayhem is that it means you'll kill most things witbout critting if they move, which can free you up to take danger zone at TSGT instead of CuP. I tend to see what they get in th...

Re: How early is too early to liberate?

I find it depends on the state of my other regions. I have a full one at strength 3 where I am currently infiltrating Lib3. I have another at strength 1 where I am running easy GOps. And a fourth I've just contacted and am recruiting in. I have more missions available than I have squads to fight the...

Re: How early is too early to liberate?

Right. Thanks all for the advice. I ended up dispatching it on Jun 10, so a 2-3 week delay. Decided I didn't have the stones for some of the strats suggested. I rarely manage to keep concealment on shinobi to the end. Can't justify bringing technical for one pod. And Sonny's playstyle seems just so ...

Re: How early is too early to liberate?

Playing Legend. I know from Commander he can oneshot an armoured soldier in full cover. I don't actually know how much damage he does though. It's possible I'm conflating with the M2 general. Double suppression sounds good. I didn't know the AI decided per suppression. Good to know. I usually put co...

Re: How early is too early to liberate?

Yeah, but if you bring a technical then he's dead weight until that pod as he has to save his consumables. And I don't have incendiary grenades. Even flashbangs are taking up valuable slots. However I can achieve the same same thing at least every other turn with an arc thrower assault. So that's pr...

Re: How early is too early to liberate?

I am currently scanning to get my 4th region. My other two are at 1 strength for some reason, although that can't last presumably. I like the idea of shawdowstep hunker tanking, assuming I have a shadowstep one available. But I generally feel that it's ok once it's just the general. My whole squad c...

How early is too early to liberate?

For the first ever time I got my lib chain done very efficiently and I could have launched the HQ infiltration in mid May. However I haven't yet because I don't see how I beat an HQ yet. Am I missing something? My experience of these missions is that you take a few dings and that the general is leth...
