Re: Equipping soldiers during Campaign?

70 seems rather a lot. 40-50 is plenty I'd have thought.

Not everyone can have the latest tech all the time. You need to prioritise - e.g. only A team can get warden probably.

Re: Evac during recruit raid

Those are hard. You often find all the pods are in a tight ring around your start. And the RNFs come fast. All of which means you end up in a giant fight in a short and brutal mission. Injuries are pretty much inevitable. I lost a campaign to one once. I only recruit in regions with strength under 4...

Re: Psi rush 1.5 edition

That makes sense. I can confirm the downside part. Had a shinobi with combatives gutted like a fish by a muton. First attack of the turn. Worked fine the previous turn. The soldier had >10 base dodge so >100 including the combatives bonus. I think what happened is mutons have 10 base crit chance on ...

Re: Psi rush 1.5 edition

That's strange. I thought combatives only procs once per turn. Skipping advanced mag (assuming the tech tree is correct on that) depends on what classes you lean most on. For example I find assaults kind of useless if they can't reliably oneshot enemies. On Legend I find that is not the case if your...

Re: Commander mag and psi rush campaigns

I don't know about respec. It takes a long time. Making best use of what you have is probably better than all out min-maxing. I've had some soldiers do really well from unpromising stats. I reckon RT sharp is quite a good option for a rookie that promotes with quick study and/or weak aim. (Really ba...

Re: Commander mag and psi rush campaigns

Cool, thank you for the tips. One of the biggest challenges I have is fielding cohesive team comps with a particular strategy in mind. I too often just throw a mix in (because it's what I have left in my barracks) and take wounds. Maybe training more rookies to grenadiers will help to support the s...

Re: Commander mag and psi rush campaigns

I double move for the first couple of turns before engaging. And then between engagements I'll scout with a shinobi or someone else fast, and I'll double move the ranger to keep up. Still I prefer a ranger from a rookie with 67 aim and 15 movement to one with 75 aim and 13 movement. The latter can b...

Re: skipping liberation mission?

Once you do a stage of lib in a region, it doesn't get undone. You can do the other stages whenever you want/can. The next mission in the sequence will keep spawning until you do it. They are hard to detect though. It is quite likely that Lib 2 will appear with unfeasible timers the first couple of ...

Re: Commander mag and psi rush campaigns

Thanks for the synopsis gimrah! I was wondering if you could comment on what squad compositions were successful for GOPs and for untimed missions like supply raids during either campaign. I'm about to try out a commander mag rush myself. Squad comps weren't radically different. During the period wi...

Re: Psi rush 1.5 edition

Glad it's going well. Of course, mind control on an HQ is incredibly dangerous as it could activate 20 more enemies. I'm never sure what people mean by mag skip. You need the research to access coil (at least the basic, not sure about advanced). So it's not like laser skip where you don't need the r...

Great, so now we'll get a lot of autistic anarchists making themselves invisible and disorienting everyone in the city. Thanks California.

Yeah it's a head vs heart decision for me.

Firestorm is one of those abilities that's immensely fun to use but actually less consistently useful than a bunker buster.

Re: How to see vigilance?

I believe vigilance is still hidden from the player. This is the only mention of vigilance in the 1.5 release notes. - Region vigilance gets a little sticker. Reduced the the number of workers at an outpost for the baseline vigilance decay time of 1 week from 9 to 7; reduced the impact of having mo...

Re: Psi rush 1.5 edition

I'll swap you Dwarfling!

For my 2nd attempt at Legend I'm in late May and the only scientist I have is the one I bought. (Yes, should have bought more but thought I'd be bound to get some soon.)

Plus I had counterintelligence sweep through April. So everything is behind.

Re: Psi rush 1.5 edition

How many Sparks did you build and when do you access the tech? I find they are quite expensive and the fact it's gated behind robotics means the tech is not available until you lib (drone wrecks too rare outside HQs). And then I find them so so. They be good if they had better aim and/or access to w...

Re: Psi rush 1.5 edition

It is a bit difficulty related. On Legend it's harder to make the side techs work in general. A good thing I forgot: I have found in the past on Commander there can be a reason to do psi in the mid game: if your roster isn't as large as you'd like but squaddies are hard to field or equip. A basic ps...

Re: Psi rush 1.5 edition

First, IMO that's not a psi rush. It is viable on Commander to do psi before lasers and with the psi lab as first building. By doing that I found my initiates had an immediate positive impact as soulfire will often oneshot an M1 (less so on Legend). By starting at that stage I would just about have ...

Re: Ironman Commander+

Not sure if you're referring to bugs affecting a hard ironman game, or just the difficulty in the final iteration. I think most people play honestman, i.e. ironman in principle but reloading for bugs. There are still bugs, as there were in the base game. Savegames can even corrupt sometimes. IMO usi...

Re: Is there a list of hack debuffs?

Yeah it does depend on other stats too. Decent defensive stats goes ranger, weak defensive stats goes sharpshooter. And then low movement goes DfA. High movement goes snapshot.

Re: Technical Flame Guy

Can't defend phosphorous. Flames are for CCing bio enemies. So robots are only in there by serendipity mostly. Tandem I suspect makes more difference than we think. Unlike grenades, you often don't target rockets dead on one target. And rockets at full damage get kills. So if you don't play red fog ...

Re: Is there a list of hack debuffs?

Yup. Playstyle. I would make that soldier a shooty ranger and prioritise kit in the same way.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out going for utility specs again. Although this campaign is not going well for other reasons. Maybe next one...

Re: Legend campaign failure - report and how to improve

I think my own avatar might be a curse.

Doesn't show for 3 campaigns. 1st appearance in late mid game last campaign - code black.

Appears in starting roster this campaign. Very early GOp has 4 injuries and a rookie death. And the intel package is a resistamce MEC.

Formidable is always a perk that needs a good reason not to take. More ablative means fewer wounds. Also grazing fire as early DE really accentuates that.

Of course JL is smart enough to put it against strong competition on most trees.

Re: Legend campaign failure - report and how to improve

I'm not sure why strength stayed low. I usually had 3 teams in the field and sometimes 4. I got to 3 regions quickly and stayed there for a while as I didn't get any contacts as Intel packages. I ended up doing 1st Lib3 as Light with 6 soldiers and going for the capture as I needed the contact. Was ...

Re: Legend campaign failure - report and how to improve

Thanks. I like to play it fairly ironman especially on strategic layer. Not least because the campaign won't then play out the same each time. And I hate stealth missions because usually everyone dies when I try them. But I take your point. I think I might use scientists more in havens at strategic ...
