Re: LW 1.5 questions

The fixed evac spawn locations being variable is a further detriment to stealth on some GOp objectives. Try and 'stealth' some prisoner(s) out when the evac is half the map away from the jail. Gotta love those 24 turn prison break maps with the evac on the spawn in one end and the cells on the oppo...

Re: LW 1.5 questions

1) Yes. You're on for a nasty shock if you attempt it. Not impossible but not really worth it. New mission type called smash and grab becomes main source of resources. More frequent, not as hard, not as rewarding - and hence less swingy. 2) Stealthing most missions is no longer the best way of doing...

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds

As I understand it facility leads are an 'intel package'. So if you see a mission without an intel package in the reward then it's not a facility lead mission. Pretty certain it's not from a loot drop anyway.

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds

Yeah my comments assume the soldiers' level and equipment are appropriate to the stage of the game. Fairly obviously if you send squaddies out in late game they will struggle to be relevant.

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds

On Commander and Legend I would expect to field 5 man squads as standard, especially before tactical infiltration GTS bonus. I mostly wouldn't bother fielding more than 6 even if the timer allowed unless it was more than very light or very early game to train rookies. 4 man squads can get hairy. I'l...

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds

Boosted cores is nice in the mid game. Mainly for incendiaries because it also affects tick damage, so it's effectively +3 damage on those. Would be great with gas if gas didn't suck. Bluescreen is pretty good. I do like formidable though on a class that needs its slots for grenades and is also a na...

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds

I wanted to make sapper work but I just couldn't. Early on removing one piece of cover, but only some cover, is of marginal incremental value early on when grenades are more useful for their damage. And there aren't any high hp dangerous enemies very early on. Once T2s come along damage grenades are...

Re: How early is too early to liberate?

Firewalls is +15 to hack defence. If it happens early your specialists go through the campaign finding it harder to hack. That makes them less useful, I'm more likely to leave them off missions, so they don't level, so their hack is less likely to catch up, and they spiral into irrelevance. (OW is n...

Re: How early is too early to liberate?

I've had a fairly successful strategic layer this run by only liberating one region. (Not sure what happens if you lose it - I fought off two invasions.) XCom threat has been low for much of the campaign, despite keeping my soldiers pretty busy most of the time. I've tried to conserve intel. I've do...

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds

Smoke is really good for when you are fighting lots of enemies over several turns in a relatively static fight (e.g. because n timer and/or lots more enemies in the fog). I always regret not having it on troop columns and the like. It's less good than flashbang on a GOp when my squads rely on high m...

Re: What is streetsweeper like now?

Went for streetsweeper in the end. Debut as MSGT turned out to be an invasion. This one was the usual 'target rich environment': 15-16 enemies active for several turns in a row as RNFs dropped as fast as I could kill. Got a nice one off using R&G + steady with elite stock + command. And then one...

Re: How early is too early to liberate?

In my current campaign I just flip high strength regions to supply. Keeps your income up. Supply mini retals are fairly easy usually. The constant rng full retal tends to let you get most or all rebels out. If you get the other sort, well it has to go somewhere. That has worked a lot better for me t...

Re: How early is too early to liberate?

If I have 3+ regions I sometimes designate the most promising for liberation, i.e. low strength and 5 or 6 rebels. I will only run jailbreaks and liberation missions there (unless there's a seriously juicy reward) to avoid drawing more strength. I will pop a scientist in for a couple of days to help...

Re: What is streetsweeper like now?

Yeah it's hard to be scientific about it for late game. A scattergun does 8-13 base damage + 5 crit, so 13-18 most of the time. A stormgun does 10-14 base damage +8 crit, so 18-22 most of the time. With the range that wide it's hard to assess how many times +2/3 will make the difference between a ki...

What is streetsweeper like now?

In early versions of LW2 people raved about streetsweeper but it got nerfed and now people don't talk about it much. Do people use it much? I assume the aim drop-off on the shotgun is pretty crippling. I could see it having use in conjunction with an elite stock plus concealment or command: move to ...

Exactly. You can get all clever but you don't have to in order to win on Legend.

Re: First Campaign in the Books...

It is possible to manipulate the strategic layer a fair bit if you really understand the mechanics, i cluding all the hidden ones. You can also do strange things. Psi-eyes zero infiltration strat. Whatever it is Sonny does, which I never really understood (I don't recognise most of the numbers and t...

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds

Thanks. Helpful.

Yeah I didn't mean that the AI is smart about moving but sometimes it does anyway. And if you single suppress 3 MECs there's a good chance one of them will move. Then it's a question of whether anything else has actions after that.

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds

Mmm yeah, relying solely on a single layer of suppression to keep a group of MECs under control is just asking for punishment. Double suppression would make it 93.75% chance to prevent running and an extra source of buff/debuff to further skew the Aim calculations would be when you can start to fee...

Congratulations! You're ahead of me. I did get to Waterworld on my Commander mag rush campaign but for some reason never ran the last mission. Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds

Yes but enemies have a decent chance to run suppression. If you suppress a group of MECs there's a good chance one will run it, not die to the shot and then flank or missile you. They could also just take a pot shot from suppression and if one so much as grazes then the suppression ends. I actually ...

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds

I used to try and make grenadier officers if I got a high aim one. With centre mass, chain shot and hybrid perks. It just didn't work that well. If you get one with decent aim AND quick study you could do pistol perks, centre mass and still have a sting grenade and a dense smoke with RD. I guess. I ...

Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds

My grenadiers do damage in first monthwith regular grenades, mid game with incendiaries and sort of in very late game with EMP bombs. There are significant periods in between when they just don't do much damage relative to enemy HP. And that's fine as their purpose is are debuffing enemies while oth...

Re: TIL Blacksite has an absolute RNF timer

I think they are quite long timers. You only have an issue if you OW camp for days. But if you think the rnfs only drop when you hit the objective (as I did) you will OW camp for days and may get caught out.
