Re: What are the uses of Field surgeon?

Well in 1.3 you can do both (Field Surgeon and Failsafe). And it's fine, although now that most will be taking Medical Protocol, Savior has become quite compelling vs. Failsafe. On the subject of Trojan or Failsafe being better, in 1.2 Failsafe was clearly more compelling overall. Specialists were i...

Re: What are the uses of Field surgeon?

Comparing FS to the other things on that tier, if you are overwatch spec then you obviously want EV, so that's its own case In 1.3 (video) FS is competing with Trojan instead of 1.2's Failsafe. For many (most?) people, Failsafe was an auto-pick in 1.2, since it lets you try for rewards you wouldn't ...

Re: Why is Killzone 2 AP?

Its value is that it can be combined with another soldier's opener hitting first, followed up by Kill Zone. This can be very, very strong. Having it be 1 AP would make the maneuver easier to pull off and give it even more utility. Does it need that? I'm ambivalent, it's good enough as-is and there's...

Re: Thoughts on the 1.3 changes

I don't know what difficulty you're playing on, but "one shot, one kill" has been far from the norm when you're being swarmed by M3's and have Coil weapons at best. Would any of the other shooting classes be satisfied with just Precision Shot and an MSgt perk like Double Tap or Serial for ...

Re: Thoughts on the 1.3 changes

The main point of controversy is that the Sharpshooter lacks in crowd-control or multi-attack perks/items/weapons. I don't find this to be controversial at all. The change to Serial was more than justified; it was ridiculously powerful when used on > 5 enemies. The new drop off is small for the fir...

Re: Thoughts on the 1.3 changes

A Sharpshooter can project offensive damage perks onto tiles which are not safe for soldiers with offensive perks to stand on. While an Assault uses Fortify or a Grenadier uses Smoke to stay alive a Sharpshooter takes advantage of those defensive soldiers in order to use a fully-offensive perk tree...

Re: Thoughts on the 1.3 changes

no, they see it, squad sight in lw2 boils down to you sharpshooter being further from the front line than other soldiers. they can't shoot further than anyone else except is the rare occasion your scout shinobi sees a 1-2 man pod that would be harmless for long enough to kill at range Yeah, and I'v...

Re: Thoughts on the 1.3 changes

The thing that generally makes sharpshooters unique as a class is that they have squadsight. Depending on how valuable squadsight is to a player it makes sense for there to be some cost for them having it. The better one gets at generating untimed missions, manipulating line of sight, and identifyi...

Re: Thoughts on the 1.3 changes

I'll bet, because as stands it looks like actual Snipers are gone from the game. Consider how in the current version Specialists are weak, so they make good officers because they have little better to do 1.3 Sharpshooters, if they don't improve significantly from that tree (and considering the Seria...

Re: Thoughts on the 1.3 changes

Agreed on Formidable scaling with armor tech, great idea. Falls off too fast in mid/endgame otherwise. Watching xwynns' video , the changes look amazingly good so far for the classes he covers there (he skipped over Sharpshooter since it's still being worked out) I'll be curious to find out what the...

Re: Demolition vs Curtain.

Curtain does very little of use in the early and mid game. There are many better ways to open (including just overwatching from stealth). Curtain is decent in the late game paired with Shredder, which works out fine on some SSgt gunners you pick up late (since your main teams' gunners probably aren'...

Re: Lets nerf armor shredding

So, let's nerf shredder because grabbing a couple SSGTs with it in the late game is OP?

Having useful sidekicks or B team gunners in the late game is pretty obviously not game breaking, most especially considering how meh shredder is through the first 2/3rds of the game

Silly idea is silly

Let's nerf a perk most people never take because it's generally seen as weaker than the other choices on that tier?

Yeah, let's not.

Re: Is there any reason the game says "Extremely Light" instead of "Extremely Light (6–9)"?

The foundation of the calculations is the alert level, I think? Just displaying in parenthesis (Alert level: XX) would be nice; the player can gradually learn what that translates to.

Re: 1.3 QOL - Haven Leaders Loadout

That's because you're not supposed to do this. I'm almost sure the developers idea was for Haven Advisor to be a mid-long term assignment and not something you change each time a mission shows up. It's a way to make soldiers with awkward stats actually useful. You are not supposed to swap them in a...

Re: Wet Work Balance

I think your suggestion would honestly be far too powerful. 150 supplies for a total retroactive 15% boost to experience is stupidly good, to the point of Wet Work would become "Take this as soon as you humanely can every single game no matter what." My suggestion earlier could amount to ...

Oh come on, it's obviously unbalanced and improving it to just about anything more sensible would be wise and require little effort.

I like the suggestion of just having it apply +15-20% to *all* XP. It should be retroactive like in vanilla.

Re: DFA vs. Rapid Targeting

Specialization makes sense when you're taking multiple sharpshooters on missions... but that's an unusual way to play. I take one sharpshooter. Occasionally in a 6-man squad on untimed missions, but more often as part of a 7+ squad. And he shots lots, dealing plenty of damage of himself, easily comp...

Re: DFA vs. Rapid Targeting

I usually finish campaigns before getting MK III holotargeters, so I disagree on them not having an impact sooner. They definitely have a very significant impact once you have vital point targeting, but even the first 2 perk levels are plenty relevant. Certainly at least as much as DFA's range benef...

I just want to see a parenthetical with the actual numbers/range of possibilities to make an informed decision. There's no reason people who have memorized tables of what all the various levels mean should be able to plan and play better.

1. Specialists for battle missions, each one gets their own squad. 2. Low-ranking Shinobi officers for stealth missions (oscar mike/command) 3. As backup officers: usually the shinobis who sometimes go on combat missions as scouts, and technicals. 4. Fourth tier for me is usually assaults. They some...

Always rapid for me; helps the squad so much, and when there are no targets lets them still into line of sight and target.

I never really deviate from this, other than sometimes Serial at the end:
