Re: How important is mobility?

I value mobility highly for many classes and situations. Rangers and Gunners want to empty their mags and reload/shoot on their turns, so they need to reach high cover quickly so they don't need to move again during engagement. Technicals need to get close up to get their flames going. Assaults you ...

Re: HQ Assault

Would be interesting to hear other approaches. But so far, slow retreat has worked pretty well for me. I try not to use explosives until the area is almost clear or it's a really juicy shot so I don't attract too much attention too early. I usually bring a stealth shinobi or 2 with spider armor and...

Re: HQ Assault

I generally tend to retreat back slowly on hq assault missions whenever I activate a pod. Because there are so many enemies on this map that the possibility is just too high I might activate another pod while trying to creep up with my damager dealers and cc. Also it allows me to set overwatch traps...

I prefer jammer anyway because I have the Feeling you almost get nothing from whatever that other perk is called.
In a Mission, I want Tools to make it easier, not an almost redundant xp boost

Re: LW 1.5 Specialist Builds

I notice most discussion about officers revolves around "who has the least valuable actions to trade for Command and other officer actions?" I threw that thinking away and went 100% passive officers - for which high aim snipers are the best. If Command is reserved for "things went sh...

Re: Some strange things

shinoby is always an officer ;-) I also make many of the officers but first and foremost I make specialists officers mostly because I think the specialist is less endangered to be killed since all that Needs to happen is shinobi gets spotted and killed up Close. Also I Need/want a shinobi for every...

Re: Some strange things

I would suggest to bring a technic with FiTH and mk2 gauntlet for dark VIP missions on high str regions. If VIP spawn in builings it's very difficult for sniper to get a clear vision on him and stay away of ayys at the same time - so blow the wall with the mk2 rocket (25 inv. dmg = guarantee breach...

F a n t a s t i c. Thanks, anyway. Hey at least it's not all in your h e a d :D I've had this happen too (full cover not counting as cover and flanked enemies not counting as flanked) but I couldn't find the pattern. Also as tracktwo said, if you pay Attention to the Information the game gives you,...

Re: Some strange things

I had a catastrophic dark vip Mission in a 5 or 6 STR Region where there were at least 5 faceless all in front of the vip Building. It was my first dark VIP Mission too so I had no idea what I was up against. If that had been an Ironman Mission, it might have been a squadwipe, at least half the Team...

Re: Crippling RNG, no agency.

An almost secure 2 damage is worth a lot in very many situations, though it's importance is somewhat diminished if you got red fog activated. I gave ever vigilant to my first ranger but since then always went with walk fire. I use it several times each mission and in 90% of cases it doesn't let me d...

Re: Crippling RNG, no agency.

@Phaseless I admit that you were right from the start - it really depends on which difficulty you are playing on how you view the graze band. On Commander and Legendary where the aliens get huge advantages in stats and numbers, that extra RNG feels at times like the aliens are cheating. I can only ...

Re: Crippling RNG, no agency.

Well, I finally got a Gatecrasher run to not end catastrophically. Took 36 turns to actually beat it. One 4-man pod and a trooper/sectoid pod at the end, we spent every turn missing each other, even on flanking shots. It was utterly idiotic and I am sore from laughing. One injury, two weeks out. Bu...

Re: LW 1.5 Technical Builds - especially LCpl perk

Personally I opt against Napalm x because that reduces my tech to a flamer and he's useless if not in range or if enemies are not nicely clumped up in a cone. So I take that perk that gives nades more oomph. I also take Burnout though because it's so damn good and it makes up for formidable quite ni...

Re: Crit against 50+ dodge shinoby?

Lets take a heavy turret (70 aim 10 base crit) and shinoby (2 def, 50 dodge) staying in the open (+40 crit to the turret) wearing nano-vest (-25 to crit chance). As far as I understand base turret chance is following 29 crit 39 hit 10 graze 22 miss Then 50 dodge change this into following: 15 crit ...

Re: Crippling RNG, no agency.

If I had the same experience you've had, I'd see it the same way. But I still believe firmly that your install is faulty because I haven't had a single Mission where I was dealt such a bad Hand like you've had, and I left Advent a fair amount of chances to shoot at me.

Re: Crit against 50+ dodge shinoby?

In LW2 there is a single roll but the hit/crit/graze/miss chances are calculated in a way that gives you exactly the same result you would get by using three independent rolls. Dodge doesn't reduce crit directly, it gives you a chance to downgrade crits to hits, hit to grazes and grazes to misses. ...

Re: Crit against 50+ dodge shinoby?

Heavy turret has 10 to crit not 15 and there is no crit DE yet. Nano-vest subtract 25 from crit chance so even if it works that way turret still shouldn't crit my shinoby at all. Not sure how it works. If it subtracts a flat 25 crit% then yes, it shouldn't happen, but if it subtracts 25% from the f...

Re: Crippling RNG, no agency.

There is a difference between some RNG and double RNG. With the Graze Band you have two RNG rolls per attack. As shown, you will roll more times than the aliens due to their superior HP, Defense, Dodge and numbers. So you will get a lot more grazes and misses than the aliens will get against you. O...

@ Phaseless Dodge and the graze band are designed to affect you despite your playing style. You can graze a Viper choking one of your soldiers with no cover. You can graze or miss all your Sniper shots (with 100+ Aim soldier/s) against an advent sergeant/lieutenant/general. The AI can crit your sol...

Re: Rapid Response + Vigilance = are you serious?!

I mean that 1.3 changes the game quite dramatically - the rnf start to show BEFORE the timer is expired even if concealed. In 1.1-1.2 rnf doesn't drop until timer is expired or some scripted things (like 3 turns before the timer on hack/relay missions or the next turn after activation of the VIP). ...
