Re: LW 1.5 Grenadier builds

Mmm yeah, relying solely on a single layer of suppression to keep a group of MECs under control is just asking for punishment. Double suppression would make it 93.75% chance to prevent running and an extra source of buff/debuff to further skew the Aim calculations would be when you can start to feel...

Re: Implacable Rangers

I generally used DFA snipers so once they find some high ground they typically are not gong anywhere, until I'm certain he needs to move. It's definitely a playstyle thing, where 'playstyle' includes how much you infiltrate missions. When 25+ enemies is considered "situation normal" for a...

Re: Implacable Rangers

I always have a Shinobi and scout as well as possible before engaging. If my Shinobi is the only one concealed, and spots a pod worth engaging, my initial MO is to simply arrange the team (some will OW), out of los and let the sniper activate. Then I handle what's left as needed. Actually the thing...

Re: Implacable Rangers

I'm ignoring the rest of the discussion you're having with SonnyWiFiHr to concentrate on one question. Why would you ever need a Sniper with Phantom? I presume you're specifically talking about snipers who shoot, as opposed to holobots who don't. Phantom on a sniper who intends to shoot is useful be...

Re: Is This Campaign Normal?

"Min/Maxing" I've seen this term a lot. What does it mean? I think the term comes from D&D, where you'd build really lopsided characters who were good at their designated role and made sure all their weaknesses didn't matter. "Powergaming" is another way to say it. Making th...

Re: Is This Campaign Normal?

Is the game set up so that you need to win before the end of the first year? LW2 is nothing if not excessive. I guess you just gotta deal with it. Also, since I'm in the mood to gripe, I gotta say the "perks" - not the ones from the tree, but the ones you get from running squads together,...

Re: Is This Campaign Normal?

From what I understand, in LW2 V1.0, you could run 0% infiltration missions with no problem. You can still do this. It kinda became the hallmark of my Commander playstyle. Invasions are meant to swarm you - the general consensus is "if you can cheese it because relay spawned on a roof (rainmak...

Re: Am I going in right direction?

There's been much advice on the bad side to liberating extra regions. Also consider what the payoff is for liberating extra regions: +20% on the supply job. That's not a lot. Sure, you're also free of mini-retals and retals (not to be confused with invasions) for working in a liberated region. But t...

Re: Is This Campaign Normal?

Yes that's generally the pattern of LW2 campaigns. You get a tech advantage in the midgame and it won't last that long so you push hard. To keep Advent from concentrating, you need to be spreading your hits around to always have somewhere you can be doing missions in while Advent focusses elsewhere....

Re: Is This Campaign Normal?

I've said it in another thread recently, but it bears repeating: you can lose from messing up the strategic layer. When you have squads so badass they can farm supply trains and troop columns, consider exercising restraint until you've contacted every neighbour of the region you'll be farming in. Vi...

Re: Is This Campaign Normal?

it looks like the force levels at Legendary (which is what he's playing I think) scale almost exactly with the Veteran levels Force ramps up a little faster at Legendary than Veteran, but for the most part it is just a steady clock. In RTS terms, LW2 is about pulling off a 'timing push' - you get y...

Re: Mag Rush Campaign - Commander 1.5

Ah, thank you for the feedback. Yeah I didn't keep my sig up to date on what happened after that - Legendary attempts: 1st 2nd 3rd In retrospect, it really wasn't a good time in RL to be starting a new campaign, let alone on Legendary. Attempts to short-circuit the Legendary experience by tweaking t...

Re: Am I going in right direction?

One other thing: be aware of how you get facility leads. Many a newbie lost a campaign because they didn't understand that the lead-giving missions are disguised to look like normal missions but with a much shorter timer.

Re: Is This Campaign Normal?

One thing: force level rises over time regardless of what you're doing - you're not going to catch the Force UFO as it tries to land as far away from you as possible each time. The "story" of LW2 is that as Advent gets serious (force and strength), the rebellion has to find a way to crit A...

Re: Am I going in right direction?

I finally got a supply raid last night and now have an Officer that Tygan is cutting up. Was a bit surprised. Over 30 bad guys vs my 8. Did pretty well, 1 low rank soldier KIA and 1 soldier injured. Gotta love a suitable application of high explosives. I am surprised to hear the Officer corpse from...

Ultimately they'll all be presenting the information you can find in XComLW_Activities.ini - I'm assuming you know where the ini files are for LW2.

Re: Thoughts on first complete campaign.

I tried to drag it out as long as possible but by mid May 2036 it was becoming too difficult. I was able to liberate 3 regions and another 2 were ready for liberation. Congratulations on your campaign victory. What was the timeline and relative positions of your 3 liberations? Were there any unusua...

cryptc, thank you for delivering the counter-argument in a polite manner. Software engineering (i.e. more than just modding or game development) as a whole is plagued by entitled laymen who don't know how much harm they are doing to the project. A "community thing" means unpaid developers ...

Re: Terra Invicta Dev Diary #3: Resources

Hmm, "HOI-like" is a very vague expression as it can be interpreted as "units move around on a grid and bump into each other" all the way to "division templates, weather, encirclements, etc". I personally don't think combat is a good (for the devs) topic for the next de...

Re: What's the chance of Find a Lead mission succeeding?

A discussion of mission detection mechanics is here . You'll have to look up the parameters for Lib 2, but the point is that every 6 hours (after a certain threshold) you roll dice to see if you detect a mission. It's what makes Lib missions a wrench in planning: you're never certain when you'll fin...

Re: Just finished my Veteran campaign, any advice before starting Commander?

I guess I'm in the minority here, but low infil missions was a cornerstone of my Legend campaigns - the payoff in xp is just too good! I don't think it's that small a minority. The bigger question is what timing window to do it in. There's a period in Commander around June when I honestly feel safe...

Re: Just finished my Veteran campaign, any advice before starting Commander?

You may want to allow 92% infiltration missions. That's still E.Light in a Str 1 region.

I can commend the house rule to not cheese low infiltration missions. Get used to being poor in one resource or another.

Re: What's the chance of Find a Lead mission succeeding?

Dwarfling has given you the answer. We don't think of "Find a Lead succeeding" because we know exactly which mission is the start of the liberation chain before we send a squad out.
