Meld yield is proportional to alien resources stat. The better they do, the more Meld you get (to help you catch up). You can notice how Meld canisters give more at start of month and less at the end (if you were doing well during the month thus decreasing alien resources).

Hmm - type of mission is VERY clearly stated both on the alert screen and the "alert bar" on top of geoscape view. It says either "Terror" or "Abduction".

Alien grenadiers are: Mutons, Heavy Floaters, Cyberdisks. Regular floaters get grenades after a certain alien research threshold. That's all. Well, it is definitely 'unbalance' rather than 'rebalance' :) However if you fail each one retry of LW on Normal there is sth or a lot wrong with your tactics/strategy rather than with soldier stats. Squadron size is subject to limits - it is in description and Readme. Include Lt - and you can send 2 ships. Include HPTM and you can send 3 ships, Maj. for 4 and so on. Hmm, holding right / left arrow on keybard works just fine for that purpose. Also "a" and "d" keys should work. Unfortunately there is no "code" for 'Mouse_hold_down' so that option in not moddable.
