Re: New and Improved Dark Events Thread
This is just my brief 2 cents about why people seems to be reacting much more negatively to TDEs than the Navigator system. In general, one of the things people react most negatively to in a game is the illusion of agency. They would rather never have a choice in the first place than to have that c...

Re: New and Improved Dark Events Thread
There are two over-arching points. 1. Permanent Dark Events are not fun. They remove fun. 2. Permanent Dark Events make you hurry and rush elements of the game. The opposite of a Long War. I would suggest that people try to solve for these two things in the solutions they present, or the root cause ...

Re: Dark Events
You're childish opinions add nothing to the discussion of balance and alternate solutions, which were encouraged. If you're only way of dealing with something that isn't perfect is to take your ball and go home, you should go back to just listening. This is the 2nd time you have called someone that...

Correct. An easy fix, as was pointed out a number of times. No real effort required.Thuraash wrote:And I know you're saying the game never told you that you're on a clock.

Re: Dark Events
Holy crap calm down, this is a mod not the constitution, I've seen less backlash to people besmirching and crapping all over Geneva conventions etc than what some of you guys are acting like. Not everything on LW2 is implacable and perfect and the great thing about pavonis is that they are in here ...

Re: Game Suddenly Ends in Defeat
@Severian You are correct in your assumption. :) Higher ADVENT activity in a region means more missions. More missions means higher chance of getting a liberation one. Once you get the first, you will receive the next few quite fast. Thus if you you have low activity in all but one or two regions, ...

Re: Game Suddenly Ends in Defeat
This issue could be solved in a dozen ways, ranging from effortless to complex. A simple change in verbiage would let the player know they have to press forward or the game could end. The trap here is to assume the user intuitively knows something that is not explicit. If you expect players to play ...

Re: Dark Events
My biggest issue at this point, if I understand the system correctly, is the random nature of the missions that cause the Dark Events. If these can spawn and complete in a region that you haven't contacted yet, effectively giving you no opportunity to counter them, then this creates a balancing iss...

Re: Dark Events
Agreed, permanent dark events don't add difficulty, they just eventually scale the game to the point of impossibility. I just killed an Alien Ruler faster than I could kill a gosh damn advent trooper just because I want an ACTUAL long war mod, not a fricken rush to beat the game in 8 months mod. Ju...

Re: Dark Events
Permanent Dark Events is nothing short of poor and lazy design. Forcing an end to the game due to lazy mechanics is abhorrent game design. You, sir, are an idiot. "I disagree with this design choice" does not, in any way, equal "This is poor and lazy design". You want people to ...

Re: Dark Events
I'm having a hard time with Dark Events myself and its really destroying my enjoyment. Less than 5 months in and my Dark Events looked like this: http://imgur.com/a/WLAc2 +2 bonus health, +1 damage, +1 armor/resistance to explosions, defensive increases and a bunch of other annoying talents. I woul...

Re: Game Suddenly Ends in Defeat
The Doom counter is still there, you just need to work a bit to be able to see it. Like noted above, once you liberate the first region, it will become available. If you haven't liberated any regions and have played at least 6 months in-game, something is not quite right there. :) If you want to co...

Re: Game Suddenly Ends in Defeat
Depending on your difficulty, you had roughly 6-7 months to fulfill an objective that was presented to you on Day 1. Game isn't going to forgive that. You can't seem to see the forest through the trees. The issue is that you have no warning that the end is next turn. Sure, there is a list of object...

Re: Why I don't like Timers (and a suggestion)
Your % infiltration should give you bonus turns, but never reduce turns. You should not use a turn while the entire squad is concealed. The Intervention skill is actually a great idea, but the cost is too high to be practically used until end game. Why not just remove the intel cost, and then you ha...

Re: Dark Events
Maybe the order that some DE's take place can be troubling (like in my case, an UFO Hunt on May/June was brutal and cost me 10 soldiers), but keeping DE's permanent is a nice way to keep you from steamrolling the AI in mid/end game, like in LW1 for instance. If you can power-up your soldiers foreve...

Game suddenly ends in poor design...
For anyone else reading this, you can edit the .ini and change the doom max counter from 20 to something more reasonable. This will circumvent this.

Permanent Dark Events is nothing short of poor and lazy design. Forcing an end to the game due to lazy mechanics is abhorrent game design. You do realize there were mods with permanent DE long before LW2 don't you? And some of them were rather brutal. This is the weakest argument you could ever mak...

Permanent Dark Events is nothing short of poor and lazy design. Forcing an end to the game due to lazy mechanics is abhorrent game design. Player skill has nothing to do with this. Honestly, as much as this Mod adds to the game, it's things like this that really highlight how the people behind this ...

Re: No pickup bleeding out.
I have also had this happen a few times.
Once, I was able to stand on top of where the body was, instead of adjacent to it, and was able to pick it up.

Game Suddenly Ends in Defeat
A cutscene pops up, and then the game suddenly ends in defeat. You iterate through the stats screens, and are then returned to the main menu. Super not cool! I'm pretty confident this is a bug, and isn't supposed to happen. I have *barely* skipped any optional missions, and only failed maybe 2 missi...
