Re: Balancing Squad Size with Difficulty

All the mods you suggest exist. The squad notoriety mod come at LWs fatigue from another angle. And the all pods alert mod will limit your ability to kill aliens before they act. I haven't tried either of them yet though so no promises. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=677096274...

Mod theory crafting

I'm sketching out my first mod. My goal is less to create perfect balance, than to simply fix some things that bug me. The two classes I'm going to focus on are the Ranger and the Grenadier. The Ranger needs some love. Of all the current classes, he's the one I really want to love, but who just isn'...

Re: Sequel or Expansion?

Well it's true that it did seem like a lead in to a sequel. The trouble is TftD wasn't much of a sequel. I mean, sure, Tentaculats. But aside from that it was pretty much a straight up reskin with some horrible maps. (Cruise ship, I'm looking at you, map so bad they called it out in Xcom: EU.) They ...

Re: How to do...

Apparently it's stupid question day for me.

I was hoping to take a look at some other mods I've subscribed to that have similar ideas to mine to see how to get started. I have no idea where they are located. Have pity on a poor Rookie.

How to do...

This is probably a stupid problem but... I can't open the development tools. I get a pop-up that says
XCOM ModBuddy

Cannot find one or more components. Please reinstall the application.
I deleted the local content. Reinstalled, verified the cache. Still doesn't work. Any ideas?

Sequel or Expansion?

*SPOILER* Do not read if you have not finished the game and hate spoilers. . . . . . . So the end of the game hinted heavily that we can expect to see Terror from the Deep 2: Electric Boogaloo. But will the be X-Com 3: TftD 2: EB or will they make an expansion pack akin to EW? Speculate or, if you ...

Re: Announcement hype vs. reality

Which suggests that the short answer is "We haven't decided yet." The long answer is possibly somewhere along the lines of "We're not doing it now, because we're working on our own stuff, and because it's too early to judge how the mod community is shaking out now that the whole engin...

Re: I'll take the bait.

Two other things I came away with. 1) Skitter cam. In EU/EW this was really only a problem with grenades, but in Xcom 2 I'm getting miss-clicks all the freaking time. The camera just won't hold completely still. How the hell does firaxis keep managing to screw up ui responsiveness in turn based game...

Re: I'll take the bait.

Well, I finally got the game running and here's my thoughts on finishing my first play-through. 1) 20 years later, and I still want a STFU Bradford button. :D 2) The devs do try way to hard to force arbitrary "hard decisions" rather than letting them grow organically. I think they have a t...

Re: What does missile "Scatter" mean?

It worked to differentiate the classes really. I value aim on my rocketeers to the same extent as I do for snipers. Engineers are where I will stick soldiers with crap aim. It actually highly useful to have a class which isn't aim dependent. (Other than medics and suppression gunners.)

Re: What does missile "Scatter" mean?

It does seem odd just how inaccurate missiles can be, given the "I hit the gnat in his left eye." accuracy of grenades. But that's just my taste. I can follow the math although I suspect I would have generated a single distance from aim point with a normal distribution and then a direction...

Re: HE grenades are broken

I disagree with uselessness of HE grenades. Just learn its purpose and learn how to use it. These are not supposed to damage aliens, really. At the begining of campaign they do destroy cover but in the very center of blast radius (say withing 1 tile radius) and in fact they are supposed only for th...

Re: Mod suggestion (actually re-inclusion from the old old Xcom)

Actually, this would be a good mod for the Sectopods. They have larger eyes which could suggest that they can see better at night and might suffer a disadvantage during daylight hours. Mechanical/robotic based enemies and troopers should get sight bonuses day and night. Snakemen should get bonuses ...

Re: Fire away ...

Hey John, I'm more focused on modeling and animation so I've got a question on that. Say I use Maya / 3DMax to create an object (such as a pistol, gun or even armor), how would I go about importing that to replace or add to the current list? Well, I don't have the game yet, due to severe IRL financ...

Re: Mod suggestion (actually re-inclusion from the old old Xcom)

Actually in the old game it was light related. The aliens had better night vision that you did, but the humans had a slightly better sight radius in daylight. My usual solution to night missions and the light issues is to load an auto-cannon with incindieries and set the map on fire. :D Not recommen...

Re: Favourite Xcom Alien

Probably the Tentaculat from Tftd. To be sure, it's just a swimming Chryssalid. But since swimming was 3-d they were effectively flying chryssalids. Plus they had strong front armour, which meant gunning them down during a charge was iffy. And when you killed a zombie they spawned a new tentaculat, ...

Re: What are you looking at for an Engine and art style?

@ Wargate It's possible. I'm a little worried the UI may have too much going on to work on that kind of platform, but we're not ruling out mobile platforms at this point. It is one hell of a lot easier to design a UI with tablets in mind and not go there than it is to design a conventional UI and t...

I've been playing Long War for a good while now and if I saw multiple HE grenades doing 0 damage to sectiods when dropped into the same square I would bug report it too. The most important thing the mod must include will clearly be to have Old Man Doorn rolling around the battlefield in a wheelchair with a shotgun yelling "You damn aliens! Get off my lawn!"
